About Adam Dennis

Over the many years that I have been working in the auto industry, I have learned that paying attention to business fundamentals breeds more success than any shiny object. Optimizing teams, eliminating obstacles, and getting people to work well together, according to a shared set of values, is key. In the case of SurgeMetrix, we apply this philosophy in everything we do knowing full well that we succeed only when our customers succeed. Our consultative services, solutions, and apps help car dealers build new markets via highly nuanced Hispanic advertising, AI optimized SEO, fast Google optimized bilingual websites, and detailed market intelligence... on you and your competition. And, to make things sweeter, we can also help you via tailored cybersecurity services to combat cybercrime.Data guides much of what we do. Whether we collect data to better understand the composition of an Hispanic community around your dealership, or compile data to track inventory turnover with your competitors, we use data to help dealers like you make informed decisions about how best to sell cars. This consultative approach unifying our experience, vast data collection, and cutting edge tools makes us unique in a market full of cookie cutter companies and solutions. • Dominion Dealer Solutions
Dds Special Project Consultant - Range Of Projects | Product And Operations
Dominion Dealer Solutions Feb 2018 - Jul 2018
Served as a consultant helping to improve a range of Product and Operations related processes across the Division. I worked on two projects: One to capture attrition early and the other to streamline operations.Project 1: Net Promoter Scores and Customer SatisfactionMy first project established a survey management process for the Product and Services teams to ensure that they are obtaining facts on customer product satisfaction. The primary method for this work was Net Promoter Score surveys coupled with a simple one question satisfaction survey for the Deployment, Services and Support teams. All workflows and responses were created working with the respective teams along with the drafting of content and selection of testing tools. Negative responses get addressed immediately while positive responses get routed separately to Marketing and Sales. Data controls were developed to update all data via a CRM. Quality is ensured via various checks and balances in the process. The outcome of this work was twofold: 1. Early intervention with dissatisfied customers resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings; and 2. Highly satisfied customers (aka "Promoters") were then routed to Sales for upsale opportunities and Marketing as testimonial advocates.Project 2: Streamlined Operations Operational assessments are almost always uncomfortable since such efforts often impact people's lives in terms of position changes or elimination. My role for this project was to work with key staff to organize a plan for the Senior VP that would improve margins and operational efficiencies.A review of the organizational structure, tool use, process, and customer volume to staffing ratio resulted in changes that saved the company a significant amount of money without sacrificing the overall service support and quality... both key indicators for success in the project.
  • Dominion Dealer Solutions
    Vp Of Product Development
Dominion Dealer Solutions Nov 2011 - Feb 2018
In 2011, I was recruited to merge 7 Dev teams from different companies into one divisional team. I had to get all teams to work together using Agile, create a user experience team to integrate Lean UX into our product development processes, build a series of shared coding standards and best practices, and develop a quality assurance model that emphasized unit and automated integration testing rather than manual regression testing alone. My job was as much psychological as it was technical in using Kotter-styled change management methodologies to get the teams to work together and embrace shared standards of excellence.Over the years I assumed responsibility for 5 more teams. My job, as with the other teams, is that of a change agent promoting best practice based processes. I remotely manage all teams using Jira, Git, Slack, Google hangouts and Skype. Performance is validated via code reviews, QA audits and various performance monitoring tools such as New Relic. This leaves me highly experienced in remote team management whether on or offshore. There are a lot of terms I could use to describe my leadership style... Kaizen/Lean in management philosophy, Agile in methodology, automation driven for testing, builds and deployment. But, at the core, I simply coach to best practice based decision-making and build highly collaborative self-correcting teams led by independent and strong managers. This put my first 7 teams on solid footing and has done the same for the others.
  • Dominion Dealer Solutions
Special Project Consultant ►Launch Of Single Web Platform For Nada 2011 ♦ Sales Team Training & Cert
Dominion Dealer Solutions Apr 2010 - Nov 2011
My responsibility was to create a single web platform to unify four existing legacy applications and assemble the ORP (operational readiness plan) to sell, deploy and support said application, and to have the app ready to sell by NADA 2011. As the result of my efforts, the platform was created and ready at NADA. The sales teams were fully trained and certified to sell all products supported by training videos, and all price books and contracts were created as well. The support teams were fully trained and certified with support ticket software, chat software and phone networks assembled to manage as one product. As the result of my efforts, the platform was created and ready at NADA. The sales teams were fully trained and certified to sell all products supported by training videos, and all price books and contracts were created as well.
  • Dominion Dealer Solutions
Special Project Consultant ►Range Of Projects ♦ Business Development
Dominion Dealer Solutions Apr 2005 - Apr 2010
After I sold my company (XIGroup), I served as a technology and business operations consultant for Dominion. Two examples follow...In 2006 I was brought in for a period of time to realign a company that was losing money through poor resource and people management. I assessed the team, identified leaders to correct the situation, created a plan for time-boxing our efforts, and helped turn a losing enterprise into a profitable one again.Another task I was asked to perform was to evaluate the performance of another technical team to correct poor performance. I visited the site, interviewed staff and their supervisors and made recommendations on how to improve the processes and staffing for the development and operations teams. As before, the group's performance improved but in this case not as much as was possible. The project lead did not replace a few critical staff members that undermined the team's success. I believe strongly that good people produce good results and poor performers should be allowed a chance to improve, but if they cannot, they should be replaced with a reliable performer as fast as possible. As the old saying goes, “Hire slowly but fire fast.” Retaining problem people only undermines your bottom line.
  • Xigroup
Owner & President ► Product Development ♦ Saas ♦ Client Management ♦ Strategic Leader
    Xigroup Apr 1999 - Apr 2005
I owned and founded XIGroup in late 1999. I led product strategy and concept development for a range of SaaS products, developed a large customer base with high retention rates, and managed all other aspects of the company. XIGroup built a strong reputation for reliable products backed up by excellent customer support and service.A few of our accomplishments included developing a series of highly stable web apps for sale on a MRR model. Additionally, we established a solid margin for the company and sold in mid-2005.XIGroup's software was primarily built with ASP.NET with MS SQL as the database.
  • Washington Area Project For Youth / Youthlink
    Executive Director
Washington Area Project For Youth / Youthlink 1993 - 1999
YouthLink was an intervention program targeting at-risk Washington, DC youth between the ages of 13 and 21. It grew out of the "Youth At-Risk" program which was run in the 1980s and 90s in many cities around the US.YouthLink's primary goal was to give young adults valuable skills that they could use the advance their lives especially if they had been involved in drug dealing or similar activities.I founded YouthLink to teach young adults how to create web pages, do simple programming, design images and buttons for use within web sites, build animations, manage NT Server environments (including IIS), and train people in the use of MS Office.YouthLink was an early Internet focused technology training center that received accolades from the Washington Post, was featured on BET, and received visitors from as far away as Japan who wanted to learn about the program.I left YouthLink in 1999 to to start XIGroup. Quite entertainingly, the charge to start XIGroup came from YouthLink participants who asked me why I didn't start my own company. The rest is history...
