Rank the Vote is a non-partisan, 501c3 non-profit organization formed to empower people across America to rapidly build grassroots movements for ranked choice voting in their own states, creating the preconditions for successful ballot or legislative campaigns. Our methods are simple and time-tested: organize and educate regular voters so they can build capacity; rigorously measure results; and take careful, sequential actions to enact this common sense reform into law.Rank the Vote was founded by a small group of veteran advocates who ignited state and local movements for ranked choice voting. I authored the foundational document, "The Ranked Choice Voting Movement Playbook", then methodically launched new independent, autonomous statewide organizations in close partnership with volunteer advocates on the ground in 10 states. After securing seed funding, and building out a talented organizing team, I moved into an advisory role in 2021. Meanwhile, in just about one year, Rank the Vote has grown to over 20 state partnerships and has become a key strategic partner to the established national organizations focusing on this reform.

In November 2016, voters in Maine did something amazing: through the ballot, they became the first state in US history to enact statewide ranked choice voting. A few weeks later, I convened a meeting of activists in Civera's Boston office to explore doing the same in Massachusetts. 54 people showed up, we got to work, and Voter Choice Massachusetts was born. As volunteer Executive Director, my job was to oversee an all-volunteer army of voting reformers to delegate and distribute leadership, craft a political strategy, build capacity, train on organizing skills, manage technology, regularly write email blasts and run strategy meetings, set ambitious goals, network relentlessly to recruit a large and highly visible advisory board, give countless public talks, secure funding commitments from thousands of donors to power a strong statewide campaign, and inspire a culture of excellence, accountability, and results.Starting with a tiny 200-person email list, no bank account, and just one kick-off meeting, Voter Choice Massachusetts secured millions of dollars in funding, hired professional staff, and in just under three years became the largest statewide movement to advance ranked choice voting in the United States.

Within this high-traffic environment (6 million unique visitors per month), I managed the website's entire codebase, assisted in managing our server cluster, and developed a deeper understanding of DB query optimization and replication, mobile app development, online advertising, and ad design. Working with a system administrator, a trafficker, an ad team, six content editors, and print paper colleagues, I continually took a lead role in implementing new functionality and performance enhancements to the site, to maximize usability and stay a cut above the competition.

I served as lead developer for VoterBloc, a civic engagement social network located at www.voterbloc.comMy role was of a freelance web designer and PHP applications developer. I typically worked on contract, either directly with clients, or sub-contracting through other web design firms that needed help meeting their deadlines with quality work.
