Things feel complicated, so we simplify. Sometimes we oversimplify. I like to work on problems that benefit from the application of a broad set of models, finding ways to add grip to otherwise slippery situations. With that, my career has spanned across virtual economies, dysfunctional businesses, military/intelligence, conflict zones, flavor profiles, co-evolution of species, dynamic computation, and neuroimmunology. I'm a student of systems theory, which really just means that I'm an above-average guesser with a high tolerance for being wrong. I'm decisive and pragmatic and am willing to lead when things are foggy. I feel no compulsion to cover my ass, and believe that the work is what matters.This makes me well suited to new technologies (I started my first internet company in 1995, implemented my first machine learning system in 1999, and operated a US$1B virtual currency in 2008); turnaround situations (I'm comfortable breaking and remaking, and have always thrived in downturns), and invention (most recently, I invented a new model and therapy for the progression of Parkinson's Disease).I'm always in search of smart teams who treat others well and share a love for making actual new things with their brains and hands.
