I collaborated with non-profits, regional governments, and the private sector to begin a program of training the MEA community health workers to be certified to test and treat malaria in their respective villages. I trained nearly 200 community health workers to test and treat malaria in their respective villages. Even in the program's infancy, the health workers will test and treat more than 40,000 people a year. My service in the rural community of Mnavira, Tanzania with the US Peace Corps gave me an opportunity to address the malaria burden at the grassroots level. I explored creative ways to present health education to community members. This improved my knowledge of the Swahili language and of Tanzanian culture which made my education projects progressively more effective. Collectively, Peace Corps Tanzania service members improved their education efforts of malaria information from reaching 7,000 people per year to 24,000 people per year by the end of my time on the committee.
