Technical Advisor
I provide technical consulting advice on WebRTC for the team at Caffeine on an as-needed basis.
Principal Engineer
I was recruited by Mozilla in late 2012 to help with Firefox's implementation of WebRTC, including design, implementation, and unit testing of associated code. During this process, I worked with others to standardize protocols for voice and video communications in web browsers in the IETF RTCWEB and W3C WebRTC working groups, in many cases driving forward difficult and controversial decisions by finding novel compromises that the involved parties found acceptable. In April of 2014, with the underlying WebRTC platform becoming more stable, I led the creation of a WebRTC-based browser feature, called Firefox Hello, as its technical architect. Firefox Hello enabled real-time communications directly from inside Firefox. I created the network-level architecture and software architecture for Firefox Hello, prototyped select aspects of the feature, and worked with a team of 12 engineers to implement and deploy the service to 350 million users. In late 2015, I worked with the senior engineering director for the Firefox product to provide an architectural review of key Firefox features. I also represented Mozilla in the W3C WebPayments working group to ensure that the next-generation payments platform that will be deployed on the Web enables an open and fair ecosystem for existing payment providers -- both large and small -- as well as new companies that may emerge in the future.

I was responsible for all aspects of system behavior, including performance, scaling, and reliability.• System Architect/Customer Liaison: In developing AAA server for a major US wireless carrier, I liaised between the customer’s planning and operations organizations and Tekelec’s engineering and product management organizations. I worked closely with the customer to gather requirements, and convey questions and concerns from the engineering team.
