1. Led the discovery-chemistry group and oversaw interdisciplinary product development teams (synthesis, engineering, analytics, supply chain, and quality control).A. Managed chemistry research to identify potential uses for and products made in whole or in part from bio-renewable feedstocks. Team utilized various polymerization, oligomerization and small molecule transformation chemistries to develop elastomers (tire modifiers, TPE’s, TPU’s), adhesives (PSA’s, electronics), coatings (paints, textiles, fibers), lubricant components (viscosity modifiers, base oils), plasticizers, surfactants, oxygen scavengers for packaging, starch modifiers, and ingredients for cosmetic and personal care products. B. Provided technical leadership working with legal and business teams in the development of research collaborations and commercial partnerships. Identified potential partners in key market areas, prepared and delivered technical and business presentations, drafted contract sections and drove subsequent contract negotiations, and led ongoing relationship development.

1. Managed multidisciplinary research teams (synthetic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physics, material science, mechanical engineering, and software engineering).A. Used combinatorial research techniques toward the discovery of novel polymeric materials for diverse applications: home and personal care, adhesives, coatings, drug delivery, polymeric drugs, polymer electronics and specialty additives. Synthetic polymer chemistries employed included radical polymerization (solution and emulsion, living and conventional), living cationic polymerization, and modification of cellulosics.B. Designed, developed and implemented novel combinatorial techniques for polymer synthesis and rapid polymer characterization, with a focus on reactor and software design. Developed many original concepts for software and equipment for accelerating research. Worked closely with mechanical and software engineers through the design, development, validation and commercialization process.2. Technical Business Development. Worked with business development and sales teams to secure numerous new and continued contracts. Met with clients and potential clients world-wide to describe research capabilities and develop joint research collaborations. Wrote technical work-plans and managed ongoing research interactions with clients.3. Patents. Inventor on ~40 US and foreign patents (compositions of matter, research methodologies, software concepts, and instrumentation designs).
