Hey there, welcome to my profile. I'm a co-founder of a media production company called 517 Visuals. Together with my wife Amber, we started our company to help the built-environment industry (architects, engineers, construction, and developers) and other professionals create compelling and useful visuals. That help usually takes the form of final photography of your award-winning projects or headshots of your award-winning people. Do you need some of that? Well then, you're in the right place.A little about me: I went to school to become a graphic artist and spent more than a decade working in various artsy marketing roles. Back then I specialized in corporate branding and logo design. In 2013, I quit my dream job as the Creative Director of a tech company to venture out on my own. The year before, Amber had started a little side-hustle photography business for Google called “Google Business View.”At the time, this was a brand-new thing Google started training people for, and we were some of the first in the world to be certified to provide this service. It was an offshoot of Google Street View, but rather than cars driving around, local photographers were trained to take 360 photos on a tripod and upload them to Google. In the early days, Amber would go door-to-door selling the tours to local businesses, and then I'd help her shoot them on the nights and weekends. She got busy enough that I could make the leap to join her as a full-time photographer. Fast-forward a decade or so, and we've dipped our toes into many genres of photography. We've shot every kind of business you can imagine, even weddings and family photos for a time, plus more hotels than we can count. And nowadays (as you probably know) we specialize in creating visuals for the AEC industry. It's been quite a journey. Our work can be seen on the websites and other marketing materials of hundreds of happy clients, including SmithGroup, Owen-Ames-Kimball, Kingscott Associates, C2AE, the PEA Group, Progressive Companies, Wade Trim, The Christman Company, Granger Constructions, Pace Howe Design, The MSU Research Foundation, Michigan State University, Choose Lansing, The Gillespie Group, DTN Management, and Eyde Development, naming just a few.Got a project you think we'd be a good fit for? Let's chat!

Co-Founder/Creative Lead517 Visuals Aug 2012 - PresentLansing, Michigan, United States517 Visuals was started to create purposeful visuals (photos and videos) for the built-environment industry (i.e. architects, engineering, construction, and developers) and other professionals. Our goal is to highlight your best assets (buildings and people), and make powerful marketing tools out of them. -
Creative DirectorLeightronix, Inc. Sep 2009 - Jan 2013Holt, MichiganThis was my last day job. The culmination of over a decade of working in various creative positions. I was in charge of all visual contact the public had with LEIGHTRONIX. That included the website, emails, business cards, brochures, trade-show booths, product design, product naming, photography, packaging, invoices, etc. If the public could see it, I was to oversee it and make sure it was in harmony with the design aesthetic that I had developed.I was so grateful to get the chance to make a significant impact on this welcoming and appreciative company. But I had greater ambitions than building someone else's company up. And I wanted the freedom to pursue more volunteer work. -
Graphic DesignerLeightronix, Inc. Sep 2008 - Sep 2009Holt, MichiganPrior to me being hired, Leightronix outsourced all of their marketing work to 3rd party design firms. I was tasked with bringing this in-house and updating and unifying their corporate identity across all mediums. Not an easy task for a 30-year-old company that had experimented with many differing styles in their marketing efforts over the years. -
Graphic Designer/ProductionCapital City Reprographics Dec 2006 - Sep 2008Lansing, MiAfter Amber and I got married, I moved from NYC back to Michigan. We settled in Lansing, MI. Looking to use some of my graphic designer skills, I started working for Capital City Reprographics in Old Town Lansing. You never knew who was going to come through the doors here. I got to do all kinds of projects. Photo retouching, graphic design for clients, consulting on printing methods. And working in the production room. That included printing, laminating, and constructing a variety of things. Also fine art reproduction and color-matching prints. There was always something new happening here.

Full-Time VolunteerWatchtower Aug 2003 - Nov 2006Brooklyn, NyWhen I got out of school, I wanted to do something to give back. I took awhile to reach this goal, but I was finally given the opportunity to reach this goal in New York City. I worked as a full-time volunteer at the World Headquarters of Jehovah's Witnesses. While I was there I worked in various departments (security, cleaning, and pest control). I also did some graphic design work for the Tours Department. But mostly I was there to support the global preaching work, something I'm still doing to this day. -
Graphic DesignerHometown Connection Magazine Jun 2002 - Aug 2003Clarkston, MiI was the graphic designer of the Hometown Connection coupon magazine. There were seemingly endless edits to tiny ads. But I learned a lot about making clients happy, how to work with limited resources, and make tight deadlines.

Jr. Production ArtistMcelfish & Co Jul 2001 - Jun 2002Troy, MiThis was my first real job in the creative industry. I was surrounded by very talented individuals who I learned a lot from. I worked primarily in the production room with mock-ups and deliveries for clients. But they let me dabble with the projects they were working on as well, so I could get my feet wet in the design world. I learned as much working here as I did in Art School.

Technical Photographer/Data EntrySoft Tech Solutions Jan 2001 - Jul 2001Auburn Hills, MiSoft Tech developed a tool for system administrators called the On-Line Detective for Sun Microsystems. I worked to expand that resource by analyzing circuit boards and controllers and then logging each part into a database. I also documented the process of taking apart and replacing Sun hardware by photographing each step and integrating it into the On-Line Detective. Little did I know that I would be doing a lot more photography work in the future.

Sales AssociateNichols Ski And Snowboard Feb 1999 - Jul 2001Waterford, MiThis was my first experience working in sales. I sold snowsport gear in the winter and patio furniture in the summer. Retail is another industry I think everyone should get to experience. It will give you more empathy for your fellow human beings who work for minimum wage.

Level 1 Technical SupportOakland Schools Jun 2000 - Jan 2001Pontiac, MiWhen I was in high school, if you would have asked me what my dream job would be, I would have told you IT work. I loved computers and working on them all day seemed like the coolest thing I could do. Little did I know the toll that fixing people's computer problems day in and day out would take on me. The team I worked on supported about 500 users at the Oakland Schools headquarters building. They hired kids like me who were still in high school to help them get experience on the job. It was called Network Services and I was on Level 1 Tech Support. That included 95% of the computer problems that people had. Which were usually user errors. I learned a lot here about how to be nice to frustrated people. My other responsibilities included configuring new Macs and PCs, installing software, setting up printers, and troubleshooting any other issues that came up. I didn't last long here but it taught me a valuable lesson about what I didn't want to do with my life. So after this job, I went to Art School and haven't looked back since. -
Cashier/CookThe Wendy'S Company Jan 1998 - Feb 1999Clarkston, MiThis was my first experience paying taxes. I think everyone should work in fast food at some point in their life. It will make you much nicer to the hard-working people in the drive-thru who have to deal with hungry people all day, every day.
