Lead on international design team to improve print quality for monochrome laser printers. Specifically focused on media registration, print quality defects, and acoustics caused from mechanical disturbances and vibrations. Design of fixture components in NX and submitting part drawings and solid models to the model shop. Responsibilities also included the use of LabVIEW to development a control interface to active motors and solenoids at precise times. Also required is the setup of measuring instruments, such as optical sensors, encoders, and load cells, to be integrated with data acquisitions hardware. Utilized Matlab in various aspects to improve quality and reduce development time and expense. Wrote software to import data, perform analysis, and generate reports for frequent and tedious tasks done in Excel. Designed multiple image analysis techniques to gain improved detail on media motion through imaging. These techniques are now used company wide. Experience designing gear trains from the ground up. Also required the design of individual plastic gears and pinons to ensure accurate tooth production via mold filling and limited shrink risk. Experience using gear CMM to perform elemental inspection of gears. Interpreted elemental gear inspection reports and provided feedback to vendors on how to improve molding accuracy. Traveled abroad to support prototype builds along with start of production to full scale manufacturing. Travel includes multiple visits to Guangzhou China, Sau Paulo Brazil and Cebu, Philippines. Communicated with overseas vendors to approve manufacturing tools.Utilized FEA tools to validate component stresses under typical use, and to determine failure point.Utilized IMS tools to validate part design to ensure adequate mold filling, and predict part warp and shrinkage. Experience using machining tools such as end mills, lathes, drill and arbor presses to make quick turnaround changes to existing parts, or to create prototype parts.
