Resource Conservationist
CurrentLead the development and implementation of a wide variety of conservation plans for public and private land owners/operators that address the unique environmental problems on their land, according to the land owners’ decisions, while adhering to established policies and procedures of the NRCS. Provide technical expertise and information to engineers, the general public, conservation districts and regional planning groups to ensure the development of highly specialized land resource plans and incorporate the needed soil and water conservation measures. Supply technical guidance to Farm Bill applicants and the general public on a wide variety of agricultural systems. Serve as the NRCS representative to Utah’s Soil and Water Conservation District boards within my service area. Represent the NRCS at local community, partnership, conservation district and outreach meetings; local work group feedback then being incorporated into field office objectives. Independently manage the day to day operations of a NRCS field office while maintaining regular contact with the District Conservationist supervising the area. Serve as acting District Conservationist (supervisor) and lead monthly internal staff meetings when current supervisor is on leave. Serve as primary point of contact in the field office for local landowners, general public, NRCS employees and partner agency staff. Work with private land owners to develop focused conservation plans that increase habitat for the federally threatened and endangered species. Identify wetlands according to USDA Food Security Act guidelines, assess pasture health utilizing NRCS pasture condition scoring, write nutrient management plans for dairy waste lagoon renovation projects, identify forest pests in production pine stands and implement pest control plans.
