As project manager, I oversee the day-to-day delivery of the Ock and Thame Farmers Floodplains and Freshwaters Project, a DEFRA funded Landscape Recovery project which aims to restore biodiversity and freshwater habitats at a landscape scale through nature based solutions.In this two-year project development phase, we are focusing on designing long-terms opportunities to secure innovative funding methods for various restoration goals, such as payment for Ecosystems Services, which we will develop into a viable landscape-scale strategy. The project covers more than 8,500 hectares across two river catchments, involving 90+ landowners and farmers from across Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

This year-long MSc, a collaboration between Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and Royal Holloway, University of London, equipped me with an interdisciplinary perspective on food systems, highlighting the interconnectedness of food, biodiversity, climate, and sustainability. The course enhanced my expertise in biodiversity, regenerative agriculture, food security and advanced data analysis.Studying at Kew offered invaluable insights into leading plant science, particularly the potential of genetic diversity in neglected and underutilised species. Additionally, the course expanded my understanding of sustainable development and the global challenge of balancing environmental conservation with human livelihoods. It optimised my academic writing skills and research abilities and offered a unique combination of academia and hands-on experiences, including field trips to Wakehurst and the Millennium Seed Bank. These experiences have empowered me to tackle global sustainability challenges and contribute to a more resilient food system.
