I worked in the Aircraft Aerodynamics and Design Group for Professor Ilan Kroo, founder of zee.aero. I focused mostly and the design and construction of the wing portion of the aircraft, but had to work closely with my colleague to ensure that the wing would fit rigidly into the fuselage, and be interchangeable in the field. We ended up building two functional wings that could easily be mounted and unmounted in the fuselage. We then successfully flight tested them and achieved trim flight. After the completion of this project, I worked on developing a Matlab-based program to aid in designing these aircraft. I identified over 40 independent parameters that the user could input (e.g. airfoil shape, span, aspect ratio). The program would then produce a set of pdf files that could be sent directly to a laser cutter, and assembled using the methodology we developed. This project taught me a lot about designing systems and tools to maximize accuracy, precision, and efficiency. I am currently working with Robbie Bunge, a PHD candidate in the lab, designing and building a trifilar pendulum to measure the inertial properties of aircraft.

Created an array of B-Dot probes to test the magnetic field over time in the plasma jet operated by Dr. Mark Cappelli and his team. During my research at the Stanford University Plasma Physics Lab, I developed all aspects of an array of probes as well as an entire testing and calibration device. By the end of my project, the probes were functional and calibrated, and the testing apparatus was preserved for other uses in the lab. During this project I made weekly progress reports to my colleagues and supervisors, and at the end of the summer presented my work to the entire Mechanical Engineering Summer Research Program. This project taught me a lot about working on a project that requires collaborating and communicating with the other members of the lab to make sure the different parts integrate well.
