The POWH provides specialist care for patients with advanced, progressive, incurable illness. Costing £2.2m a year to run, it receives around a third of this from the government; the remainder it must raise from fundraising activities and charity shops.Appointed as a director of the main board and associated charity shops board in 2010 I perform a role somewhere between a Finance Director and a non-executive director. • I provide expert guidance and support to the small finance team.• I challenge the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team on their results, budgets and business plans.• With my fellow trustees I set the strategic direction of the Hospice and define its position in 21st Century care. Following an operating loss in the year prior to my appointment I have challenged management to work towards a balanced budget through a thorough review of services performed, fund-raising activities undertaken and costs.

Equifax is a global leader in the provision of credit and commercial data to businesses and consumers worldwide. In 2011 revenues topped $1.9bn.The UK and Ireland grew organically by 10% in 2011 to achieve revenues of £77m. My team of 12 in the UK, 4 in India and 2 in the US deliver the complete financial control and accounting service for Equifax in the UK and Ireland.Key AchievementsAcquisitions and Investment AppraisalI led the accounting and financial due diligence for three potential acquisitions one of which we decided to progress to completion in March 2011 for £21m. Following the acquisition I led the integration project to bring the new company into the Equifax group.GovernanceFollowing the acquisition in March 2011 I have operated in a divisional FD capacity working with the Operations and Sales directors to ensure that both the financial and non-financial targets set as part of the acquisition process are achieved. The new business is operating as a key profit driver for the Equifax group. ProfitabilityThrough process-reengineering and the leveraging of efficiencies I have transformed a team of twenty-eight, split between Equifax and out-source contractors, into a team of eighteen. This generated a recurring annual saving to the UK business of over £650k. Working with the US based tax team and Deloitte I restructured the UK and European ownership structure to deliver an annual saving of £850k of corporation tax was achieved.Operational EfficiencyI refocused the credit control team and affected changes in procedures that reduced DSO to 43 from 60, putting £3m of cash back into the business, and over 90-day debt to £250k from £1.1m.

ARAMARK are the third largest managed services provider in the UK with worldwide revenues of over $11bn.The UK business generates revenues of £400m with 10,000 staff. I managed a team of thirty finance staff covering internal and external reporting, accounts payable, general ledger, fixed assets, treasury, billing, insurance, Sarbanes Oxley and audit.Key AchievementsTeam LeadershipRan a project involving a multi-disciplinary team to consolidate the accounting environments of two separate companies with zero disruption for users. Audit and ReportingLed an extremely successful relationship with the auditors KPMG with no audit adjustments throughout my time at ARAMARK and sign-off within a month of year-end. Managing Professional RelationshipsAppointed the company’s first property advisory firm and developed a comprehensive property strategy with eight properties exited in two years generating savings of £0.5m per annum.

Tenet Limited is a group of networks that provide Financial and Mortgage Advisers with enhanced terms through increased purchasing power and provide compliance support. It has revenues of approximately £65m.Appointed as Finance Manager, within a year I was made Group Finance Manager reporting to the Commercial Director with total responsibility for the finance function and seven staff following the departure of the FD. Key Achievements Company Secretarial I was appointed Company Secretary fulfilling all duties relating to board meetings, the AGM and all Companies House and HMRC filings. Accounting SystemsWithin six months of my appointment I delivered a wholly new accounting system on time and on budget which improved transactional processing and enhanced reporting and analysis to the board.Investor RelationsPrepared and attended institutional investor presentations with the Commercial Director helping to ensure their continued support and investment.Board ReportingPrepared and presented the monthly results to the board of directors.
