I work with with large (7TB) spatial datasets and need to crunch a lot of data to deliver GIS solutions to the business.Async Rust enables me to leverage all the resources on the server and implement useful algorithms (R-tree, minimum spanning tree etc) in a reasonable time.The upshot is a suite of sophisticated visual tools for spatial problems - calculating 3D line of sight from tower to rooftop, viewsheds, Fresnel zones etc.

Swoop was born from the consolidation and acquisition of several regional Australian Telcos. My role has been to research, prototype and build unified systems to support the integration of the various entities.My architectural preference is for 'monolith where possible with microservices as appropriate' making use of a message bus for flexibility of gluing the parts together.In building systems for Swoop I have made use of some awesome Open Source tools: ° Camunda - headless workflow engine ° RabbitMQ - messaging ° PostGIS - first class spatial database ° SigNoz - observability platform with logs, traces and metrics ° Typesense - instant search ° Spicedb - Zanzibar-inspired authorisation frameworkWe have had good success using Go, but I am loving Rust!

In this role, my team built a suite of inter-related productivity applications delivered via mobile and web.We created a custom back end (BaaS) that delivers a common REST API to all clients - iOS, Android, and Web. We have called this the MyTime platform, and use it to power all of our mobile/web productivity applications.Our flagship service is My Time Fitness supporting the personal fitness industry from end users to trainers to gyms and clubs.I was intimately involved in the Business Analysis of the requirements, architected the system and lead the delivery along with a small team of mobile and server-side developers.

I led a great team of about 17, distributed across Brisbane, Sydney and Manila. We built and maintained the back end systems that run the Corporate business of some 500 staff.My role was split between BA and Development Manager activities, working across all business units, defining and delivering systems to automate processes, deliver new products to market, and provide more information and services to the customer base.Rolled out Jira to run Corporate Service Assurance for TPG, PIPE and Intrapower, saving over $200k compared with re-licensing incumbent solution. Dozens of custom workflows support all aspect of Corporate Service Assurance, with deep integration into back-end systems.

Hotspot Global was a startup incubated by Intrapower - the goal was to provides a turnkey solution that would allow roaming across public WiFi networks using a single account.I was involved in a BA / Product Management capacity, as well as in pre-sales trials with potential partners in Asia.
