About Andrew Danforth

I am a software and systems engineering principal with robust technical, engineering, and entrepreneurial skills. I have nineteen years of industry experience as a self-motivated and results driven Internet technologist. I have also had a passion for digital security since I started working with computers.I spent the first part of my career at TWC as a software engineering lead responsible for development of a variety of internal products including TWC’s entirely home grown DOCSIS and PacketCable provisioning platform, DHCP lease aggregation solution, and walled garden. I later led development of the in-house PacketCable 2.0 device management product which has evolved to become a centralized protocol agnostic platform for CPE management.I moved to an architecture role in early 2012. In this position I have focused primarily on overall device provisioning architecture and strategy. This involves regular collaboration with product and engineering teams on solutions requirements, architecture, and design. Lately I have been focused on next-generation edge CPE provisioning and management using TR-069. I have worked closely with the Video engineering team to design and prototype the management and authentication flows for IP video CPE. I am also the Systems lead for nearly all things IPv6. I continue to guide and mentor the development team responsible for Device Management.I enjoy software development in a variety of languages. Recently most of my programming has been in Ruby (and JRuby), C++, Lua, and JavaScript (node.js, Angular). I'm also an experienced Perl and C developer.

Mentored engineers on software architecture and best practices, performed design and code reviews.• Liaison for product and service teams, project management organization, as well as other stakeholders. Guided internal teams through translating product requirements into a cohesive set of use cases and technical requirements, assessed their feasibility, and designed solutions to meet them. • Drove adoption of TR-069 for CPE Management. Led ACS selection process including requirements gathering, RFP development, response analysis, onsite vendor evaluation, and final platform selection. Created requirements incorporating TR-069 standards and proprietary enhancements for five classes of CPE. • Designed and developed systems and internal web services to support a centralized customer web portal for home network management. Deployed an abstraction layer in front of the TR-069 platform to provide a common services interface also utilized by Customer Care systems.• Served as IP networking and provisioning SME during launch of inaugural pure IPv6 set top box. Guided and educated video engineering team during migration to a pure IP platform. Designed and implemented a zero touch authentication solution for pure IP set top boxes using TR-069 and X.509 client certificates, eliminating the need for subscribers to manually authenticate to receive video service.• Designed and developed national DHCP platform utilizing an intermediary relay to abstract backend server topology from network elements. The solution drastically reduced operational complexity and handled a sustained load of 15,000 requests per second.
