I recently joined the Pew Research Center's Politics team as a Research Associate.Before coming to Pew, I studied American political communication, public opinion, and election campaigns as a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania, where I completed my Ph.D. in 2017. My research is primarily focused on the intersection between news media and trust, and I have a particular interest in examining how media can improve citizens' confidence in elections and other democratic institutions. I have also worked on topics such as the causes and consequences of Americans' declining trust in the press and the ways in which media coverage of polling results shapes expectations for the future.My work has been published in Public Opinion Quarterly, Nature, Electoral Studies, and Communication Methods and Measures. I have extensive experience with the analysis and design of both surveys and experiments. I contributed to question writing and instrument testing for the Institute for the Study of Citizens and Politics national election panel study. This study, a direct follow-up to the 2008 National Annenberg Election Survey, tracked citizens' political attitudes and media use through multiple election cycles using a national probability sample. In addition to working closely with the study's primary investigators and our partners at GfK, I used the data in a number of original research projects, employing a variety of statistical techniques such as fixed effects regression and bootstrapping for mediation analysis.
