Senior Scientist

Quantapore Inc.

South San Francisco, Ca

I have a broad range of responsibilities covering development and optimization of Quantapore’s proprietary nanopore-based sequencing technology. This involves process development and integration for nanopore chip design and manufacturing as well as running sequencing experiments to optimize the overall platform, and bring the idea from a proof-of-concept to a market-ready product.

Nanopore Engineer

Two Pore Guys, Inc.

San Francisco Bay Area

I worked with a team of scientists and engineers with broad range of responsibilities falling under product development category. I was the project lead for transferring the nanopore sensors from lab-scale proof-of-concept to mass-scale production as well as implementing quality control and testing. This included interfacing with manufacturing partners and subcontractors to establish a manufacturing pipeline. Some of my achievements include:- Developed new process flow for mass-scale nanopore production increasing throughput to several 1000s of sensors/week. This included processing hundreds of wafers at Stanford Nanofabrication Facilities (thin film deposition, photolithography, e-beam lithography, dry/wet etching, etc.)- Designed and implemented statistical process control (SPC) to increase production yield to >80%. This included writing a python script to make wafer maps, correlation plots, and pareto charts for yield improvement studies and presenting the data to other groups (R&D, Engineering, Biochemistry, Operations, etc.) - Managed the production line of nanopore sensors including managing lot history record, inventory, and performance record database. - Characterized sensor structure, properties and functional performance using focused ion beam, scanning and transmission electron microscope, and electrical current measurement systems - Led the technical negotiations with manufacturing partners for process transfer

Jul 2016 - Jul 2018

Graduate Research Assistant

Mechanical Engineering And Mechanics Department, Drexel University, Philadelphia

I spent 4 years doing my PhD research at Biological, Actuation, Sensing and Transport laboratory (BASTLAB) at Drexel University. I worked on single molecule detection (DNA and proteins) as well as single particle detection (liposomes, exosomes, viruses and nanoparticles) with resisitive pulse sensing in solid-state nanopores. My main focus was developing a nanopore-based method for morphological analysis of soft particle (virus/vesicle) deformation in nanopores. Not only I had a chance to expand my knowledge and experience in molecular biology and biophysics but also I gained new experience including: - extensive hands on experience in micro/nanofabrication and characterization including Scanning and Transmission Electron Microscopy (SEM and TEM), Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Photolithography, etc. - significant experience in multiphysics modeling with COMSOL particularly to model biophysics of molecule/particle translocation through nanopores and nanochannels- New programming skills in MATLAB, R, Python, etc. Particularly I have worked on a GUI-enabled software for batch-processing of nanopore resistive pulse data as well as image-processing software for analysis of SEM-induced nanopore shrinking- RNA purification from viruses and Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification.- HIV pseudovirus production and purification as well as viral infectivity assay

Nov 2012 - Jun 2016

Graduate Research Assistant

Drexel University College Of Medicine

I worked in Dr. Chaiken's Lab whose main focus is on HIV entry. I worked on designing novel nanotechnology-based anti-HIV drugs. Particularly, I synthesized novel fluorescent gold nanodots conjugated to HIV-entry inhibitory peptides and studied drug-virus interactions. During my time in Chaiken's lab I gained lots of knowledge and in molecular biochemistry and obtained hands-on experience in bench-top biochemistery and biology including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA), western blotting, gel electerophoresis, confocal microscopy, chromatography, dialysis, biacore SPR, cell culture and cell toxicity assays, etc.
