I am a student at the University of Washington majoring in biochemistry. I plan on attending medical school after my undergraduate degree.After a surgical mission to Guatemala where I scrubbed in on and observed surgeries, shadowed pediatricians, assisted in the PACU, and scribed, I have been eager to enter the medical field in its full capacity. Currently I am working as a certified nursing assistant to gain some more experience in a medical setting during my undergraduate career. In my time in Guatemala with Child's Passport to Health, I saw all parts of the patient's and doctor's surgical experience from meeting patients and doing basic check ups in pediatrics, to scheduling surgery, to performing surgery, then finally to surgery recovery. In my different rotations in Guatemala I saw how integral each step of this process is and it equipped me with skills to be involved in every part of a patient's healing. I am fascinated by the scientific and medical processes that enabled so many children to live a higher quality of life in Guatemala which is fueled by my inherent need to alleviate suffering.I graduated from Glacier Peak High School in June 2023 as Associated Student Body President and valedictorian. My time in high school equipped me with a strong work ethic that is apparent in every aspect of my high school career in terms of project management and team leadership, to completing each assignment to a high standard. I look forward to entwining academics with hands on experience as a pre-med student and as a certified nursing assistant.
