I am currently employed at Farmers Mutual Hail Insurance Company of Iowa as a Precision Technology Specialist. I graduated from Iowa State University in the fall of 2018, majoring in agronomy with a minor in Agriculture System Technology and Animal Science. The focus of my Agronomy major was specific to crop management and business. I grew up on a farm in Southeast Iowa and have had the opportunity to experience different aspects of agriculture, from livestock production to crop production. While being enrolled at Iowa State, I was able to network with other students in my area and have been able to learn and acquire vital knowledge for my future career development. After graduating in the fall of 2018, I began my agricultural career with Mt. Hamill Lumber and Elevator in February of 2019. I have furthered my education through my position as an agronomist with the company. I have been able to gain and build on previous knowledge in fertilizer, chemical, and other essential functions of an ag retail business. I also assist on the family farm and help incorporate the values and experiences from my current employment and through my education from Iowa State. I value the ethics of hard work and believe that being able to maintain that value will help me pave the way for a successful career.The last two summers of college I actively pursued experience in the crop production and management side of agronomy. In the summer of 2017, I scouted seed corn fields for Mycogen Seeds. I was exposed to a full growing season and with that, exposed to the various issues or growing tendencies that sweet corn endures. This last summer I was exposed to the sales portion of agronomy. While interning at Key Cooperative, I gained a better understanding of how a cooperative runs, specifically in the sales area. I also built on my knowledge from the previous summer and pursued further experience in the crop protection field. I scouted fields throughout the summer while also gaining knowledge in the chemical side of crop protection.
