During my years at Austin College, I have spent a lot of time developing my skills as a writer, editor, and tutor. My classes certainly establish much of the groundwork for my dedication to write with excellence, especially in courses like Tutoring Writing or Form and Theory of Writing. I spent two years working as a tutor in the Scarbrough Center for Writing, working one-on-one with students to better their writing skills in all areas, from generating a strong focus for their papers to editing grammar and phrasing errors. The summer before my junior year, I also worked as an Assistant Instructor at Write On!, teaching K-12 students about creative writing. That fall, I then worked as a peer mentor for a professor, a position that required me to review and provide constructive feedback on freshmen students' papers on a weekly basis. The culmination of my writing experience as an undergraduate student can be found in my senior year, when I worked on a honors thesis in English and served as the editor for ACUMEN, Austin College's interdisciplinary academic journal. Between these two projects, I spent the year writing and revising my own work, editing and arranging selected essays for the college's journal, and continuing to support the student body as a passionate tutor and mentor.
