I was given a research grant from Mount Allison University and their Research Ethics Board to plan and conduct my own independent research project in Human Resources, specifically surrounding the topics leadership and remote work.Within this role, I performed an extensive literature review that consisted of over 50 academic articles, which helped me form my two research questions. I then recruited three Atlantic Canadian businesses to participate in my research, where I performed 22 interviews for a total of 18 hours of data. I transcribed this data and performed a thematic analysis both individually and comparatively to discern common themes surrounding leadership practices and reports on remote working. From there, I wrote a 26,000 word, 80 page thesis, as attached, which outlines the current literature on leadership and remote work, my methodology, my results, what they meant, and recommendations for other businesses. I was also provided the opportunity to present recommendations to management and have a discussion with them to discern ways to apply and use my findings in a way that was helpful for their organizations.
