Week 1: Mergers and Acquisitions & Private Equity (MAPE) I began my internship by digging into corporate transactions, particularly the nuances of M&A. I also prepared Confidentiality Agreements, Heads of Terms, Shareholders Agreement and Share Purchase agreements. Also, the hands-on experience in conducting legal due diligence and understanding the complexities of corporate law has been invaluable. Week 2: Government Business (GB) My second week was a deep dive into legislative processes, regulatory compliance, and government advisory. I enjoyed this week the most because of my interest in governance and policies reviews. I drafted bills, gave a legal opinion on the framework of CAMA 2020 (Companies and Allied Matters Act) & BOFIA (Banks and Other Financial Institutions Act) 2020 and finally analysed the propriety of demand notice served by State Internal Revenue Service on telecommunications company, critiquing the multiple taxations facing the sector. I indeed enjoyed pleasing my curiosity in the interplay between law and government. Week 3: Dispute Resolution Practice (DRP) I rounded off my internship with a focus on litigation and alternative dispute resolution. From drafting legal opinions, writ of summon, affidavit and originating motion to analyzing jurisdictional issues and understanding the intricacies of arbitration, this week sharpened my legal drafting and analytical skills. I am appreciative for the interesting minds I met, as well as my interactions with the Partner, Managing Partner, and associates. It was a rewarding internship experience, and I am delighted to have shared my abilities and expertise on cases as well. This internship not only expanded my legal understanding, but also confirmed my desire to work in government consulting and regulatory compliance. I am eager to put my newly acquired abilities and experiences to use as I pursue a career in law.
