About Adele Pierce
I love teaching drawing and painting. It's just so satisfying to see a student who doesn't believe they have the ability to paint, both enjoying the process of creating a work of art and then loving the result. Children in particular are so uninhibited! Did you know that they each have their own intuitive style if encouraged to develop their ability with confidence? It is inspiring to see.As an artist, I paint scenes from my travels and in particular have a love of architecture. Depicting the play of light on glass, stone and metal, and discovering colours in my subject matter and interpreting them on the canvas are my favourite moments.Portraiture used to be my main occupation as an artist and I've been returning to it gradually in recent years. This is one of my favourite recent paintings, inspired by mine and my husband's visit to Quebec City last winter. Even though the scene is primarily one of architectural elements, it wouldn't be the same without that little red figure walking down the slope at the bottom left corner of the painting. My emphasis of the red of her coat makes her that much more important and a connecting piece to the other bright moments in the painting. To me, her presence also recalls the extreme coldness of the day and the welcome arrival soon after, of Christmas.

Between 1986 and 1997 I painted portraits in watercolour and oil on commission. Also between 1986 and 1998 I created and painted sets for a local school of dance, "Extravadance". In 1995 I began painting and selling my acrylic and oil paintings of scenes of architecture in Ottawa restaurants and small galleries. I continue to do so and to take commissions.
