Undertake DNA analysis of biological material submitted to the Forensic DNA Laboratory.Simple examination (eg. Tools/swabs) and Complex examination (eg. Clothing/airbags) of items submitted from crime scenes for potential DNA.Use of presumptive tests such as Hemastix, Kastle-Meyer, Phadebas and Acid Phosphatase for various bodily fluids.Batch managing samples to be analysed.Extraction, Quantification, Amplification (PCR) and Electrophoresis of DNA samples using Short Tandem Repeat (STR) methodology. DNA processing of specialist samples such as: Semen, Bone/Teeth, Muscle and Stool.Sperm Elution of swabs/material relating to Sexual Assault Cases, including the creation of slides using either Haematoxylin and Eosin or Christmas Tree Staining.Volume Crime Laboratory Trainer in general lab processes from DNA Extraction through to Electrophoresis. Specialist Techniques Trainer and Sperm Elution Trainer. Interpretation of NGM SElect profiles using GeneMapper Software.Reporting results back to forces/customers and organising any further work requests.Ensuring a high level of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) to reduce contamination risks.Lead of a large team that covers general maintenance of laboratory equipment.Lead of a small team which organises and monitors the cleaning regimes for laboratories.Senior Analyst areas include: Specialist processing and Sperm Elution.Equipment Used:LPM MicroscopeQiagen EZ1 BioRobot/EZ1 Advanced BioRobotABI AutoMate ExpressABI 7500 Real-Time PCR systemQuantifiler and Quantiplex PCR KitsABI Geneamp 9700 thermal cyclerABI Veriti thermal cyclerNGM SElect, SGM+, Identifiler, MiniFiler, YFiler, PPY23 DNA profiling kitsABI 3130xl Genetic AnalyserPerkinElmer Janus automated workstation
