In this role I expanded on an existing course (ETAP 638 Media Literacy) with a colleague and revised the syllabus around our class text (Hobbs, 2021). Together we designed a curriculum for students who are pre-service or in-service teachers in the K-12 system in New York State. The course focused on first helping our students to develop media literacy skills, and then on bringing media literacy into their classrooms, regardless of grade level or content area. This culminated in a final project in which students developed a lesson plan that they could use in their own classroom and a reflection on what they learned throughout the course.

In this role I held private one on one coaching sessions to assist speakers whose native language was not English work towards their goals of reducing their native accent when speaking American English. My students had a variety of language backgrounds including Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Korean. Together we successfully worked to alter their accents effectively by breaking down sounds, comparing American English sounds with the sounds of their native language, and practicing English phonetics.

I completed a leave replacement for the permanent Chinese teacher. My responsibilities included creating and executing lesson plans, activities, and exams for Chinese II, Chinese III, Chinese IVH, and AP Chinese in addition to an independent study for two students.

In this role, I worked with the existing Stony Brook Curriculum and implemented my own activities as well in order to prepare Advanced ESL learners for mainstream study at SBU. Courses included reading, writing, presentation skills, pronunciation, grammar, Academic Success at SBU, and advanced reading.

In this role I worked on projects in the School of Education computer lab to maintain up to date software on all lab machines. I also facilitated and assisted students and faculty with lab equipment. Other duties included installing software and hardware for faculty upon request and as needed to maintain operational and satisfactory working efficiency.

At Best Learning 贝乐 I designed and executed lesson plans appropriate for various levels of students. I improved my classroom management skills. I also worked with parents and assistant teachers to ensure every child is learning and having fun.
