The Independent Collective of Survivors (ICOS) is the nationwide peak body that seeks to enable domestic, family, and sexual violence victim survivors’ to utilise their lived expertise to improve outcomes across prevention, early intervention, response and support, and recovery. The voices of victim/survivors, particularly those who belong to typically silenced, de-prioritised, and otherwise marginalised communities, continue to build upon the many previous decades of grassroots activism, collective and individual action. ICOS was established as the first survivor-led and -run independent body committed to facilitating ethical engagement with lived experience to inform and shape public and social policy, legislature and justice systems, and services. ICOS recognises and values the multiplicity of experiences and positions in the ongoing work to reduce, prevent, and finally eradicate DFSV.
