As a senior staff member, I had a seat at the leadership table and a voice in organizational decisions. I also served on ASI's Community Fund committee, which supports community initiatives through philanthropy.

Along with Sweden's honorary consul in Minneapolis, and in concert with the Embassy of Sweden in Washington, D.C., I worked with Swedish nationals and the general public to address needs such as passports, visas and travel and migration guidance. After years in editing and graphic design, I returned to writing as a reporter for the Duluth News Tribune covering higher education and crime and courts. I dreamed up and launched a weekly column called Northlandia, which aimed to answer readers' questions about local history, culture and lore, which endures to this day. This role also involved taking photos and video on assignment, and some content management system maintenance.

For nearly two years, I was a part of parent company Forum Communications Co.'s virtual design hub, laying out daily and weekly newspapers in Minnesota, the Dakotas and Wisconsin. I also was involved with online content management using the News Tribune's Drupal-powered content management system. I edited news stories and other content and helped in the day's planning, and I designed pages for the P-B's sister newspaper in Austin, Minnesota. I had the chance to do some occasional writing and video production for the P-B's website. While at the Post-Bulletin, I played a lead role in a six-month project to redesign the newspaper, from rearranging and refreshing content offerings to updating the look of the product and creating new design guidelines for editors and creative staff to follow. I oversaw the newspaper’s travel and relationships sections, including planning and producing content. I also contributed to a blog on the Gazette's website about life in southern Wisconsin for the under-35 set and had the opportunity to discuss the blog on WCLO-AM, the local news radio station in Janesville.
