In 1988 I was hired as Stanford Hospital's first apheresis nurse to collect stem cells for the newly created Bone Marrow Transplant Program led by Dr. Karl Blume. In 2006 I received the BMT Excellence Award. From July 2000 to October 2015 I also held a per diem position at Apheresis Care Group, formerally BAMAP ( Bay Area Mobile Apheresis Program). From 1985 to 1997 I was a Flight Nurse with the United States Air Force Reserve during which time I was activated for the First Gulf War doing a tour at KKMC in Saudi Arabia. During my twenty years in the military I received fourteen awards or decorations including the Meritorius Service Award. In 1976 after receiving an AS degree I did four years of active duty in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman, serving two of those years in Yokosuka, Japan. After receiving my nursing degree I worked at Stanford University Blood Bank from 1985 to 1988 were I first became an apheresis nurse.
