I am a principal research scientist in nuclear medicine physics at the National Physical Laboratory following six years postdoctoral research experience at The Institute of Cancer Research and The Royal Marsden Hospital.Molecular radiotherapy is an exciting and fast growing field in the treatment of cancer, where radiopharmaceuticals are used to selectively target tumorous cells whilst minimising the radiation to healthy tissues. Presently, patients are not treated according to the radiation doses delivered and the amount of radioactivity administered is based on body weight and surface area, which does not take into account the biological variations between patients and delivers a wide of range of radiation doses.My research involves the use and development of Monte Carlo radiation transport simulations and radiobiology models in combination with patient multimodality imaging and treatment response data to provide evidence-based molecular radiotherapy treatments.
