Adérito Fernandes-Marcos graduated in Comp. Engineering from the Nova University of Lisbon (1992); holds a PhD summa cum laude in Engineering (Comp. Graphics) from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany (1997); PhD in Comp. Engineering (via Equiv.) (2000) and full professorship Aggregation in Tech. and Information Systems from the University of Minho, Portugal (2008). In 2019 he was awarded with the honorific title of professor honoris causa from UNIVEM, Marilia, São Paulo, Brazil.For six years he collaborated with the Fraunhofer Institute IGD in Darmstadt as a Guest Researcher. From Nov. 1997 to Oct. 2005, he has been the Executive Director of the Computer Graphics Centre (CCG), an Interface Institute of UM. Dr Marcos has been responsible for the design, acquisition and management of more than 30 Research & Development projects, totalising a direct and indirect volume of more than 6 and 30 million euros, respectively. Some of the project's results were pioneers in Portugal and represented a step forward in the technology transfer of computer graphics and virtual reality (e.g. Virtual Oceanarium for the World Expo 1998).He was asst. prof. at UM from Jan. 2000 until Aug. 2009. In this position, he has been responsible for the design of several curricula in the fields of Computer Graphics, Multimedia and Virtual Reality for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. In 2013 he became a full professor at the Portuguese Open University, a public university. He is currently a full professor at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Saint Joseph, Macao, China. His interests are now primarily concerned with Computer/Digital Media Arts and their Applications in Transdisciplinary Scenarios. From Jul. 2002 until Oct. 2008 he integrated the Executive Board of the Eurographics Portuguese Chapter and has been its chairman from Oct. 2008 until Feb. 2012. From 2000 to 2009 he was a member of the Advisory Board and Board of Trustees of the INI-GraphicsNet Foundation.Since 2013 he is the President of the Executive Board of Artech-International, an international association promoting computer arts worldwide. Since 2000 he became a regular consultant for the Foundation for Science and Technology, Agency for Innovation, in Portugal; the European Commission, the Russian Federation (Ministry of Science), Cyprus Research Promotion, Development Institute of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Research Executive Agency of the European Union responsible for the Erasmus programme, among others. He is a member of ACM, IEEE and SIGGRAPH.
