About Alex Marsh

I am an inquisitive and driven leader with extensive board experience in the banking, fintech and non-profit sectors - with a portfolio spanning board advisory, strategy consulting, NED, and trustee roles. I am the Managing Director of ADG Marsh Consulting, providing a range of strategic advice and consulting services for start-ups to established corporates within the financial services and fintech sectors. Alongside this I am currently serving as an independent non-executive director of the Centre for Finance, Innovation and Technology (CFIT) to catalyse UK financial innovation and sit on the Board of Salad Money, an award-winning provider of fair, affordable lending. This builds on my previous role as the UK CEO of Klarna - the market-leading provider of BNPL serving over 18 million UK consumers. It was in this role that I was awarded the Business Leader of the Year at the Lending Awards 2022.I’m a strong believer in the power of innovation and collaboration, having been an active member of the UK Fintech Strategy Group (City of London x Innovate Finance) and the International Fintech Group (Dept of Business & Trade x Innovate Finance), and non-executive director of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce to the UK.Prior to this, I spent 10 years in leadership positions at Close Brothers, the UK merchant banking group - including as Managing Director of consumer payments start-up Close Brothers Retail Finance - recipients of the Best New Business Launch at the Corporate Entrepreneur Awards 2016 and winners at The National Business Awards in 2017 & 2018. I led the sale of this business to Klarna in 2019. I am a Chartered Accountant from qualifying & practicing with PwC in London & Sydney. I hold an MA (1st class) in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge. Having attended state-funded schools, I am passionate about championing the benefits of education for young people - having acted as Chair of Governors for a state secondary school in my home town of Brighton and am a trustee, advisor & volunteer for a number of education related charities.In 2020 I co-founded the charity Charterpath with friend and former colleague Alice Clementi. Our mission is to inspire more finance professionals to volunteer their time and skills to help non-profit organisations.I also enjoy long distance running having completed a variety of events around the globe and as part of this have led teams to fundraise over £50k for charitable causes.
