Specialist Engineer responsible for Energy Management in the Integrated Demand Management (IDM) Department. Responsible for the identification, testing and approval of new and improved Energy Management Solutions.Residential Solar Water Heating (SWH). As per the President’s directive in 2009, the rollout of 1000 000 SWH must be installed before end of 2014. (This was the largest rollout of Solar Water Heaters in the World)National Technical Advisor/Project Management (MOUs in excess of R1.9 billion) for the SWH Rebate Program. Liaison with various stakeholders’ SWH manufacturers, distributors, suppliers, installers, external consultants (EON), SABS, Deloitte, 3rd parties, Commercial Institute’s/financiers/banks. Carbon Funding (sustainable energy savings 10 years maintenance). Developing Methodologies for SWH rebate incentives. (Utility pays 90% of installed cost, the remainder either comes from carbon fund or the homeowner. Homeowner carbon funding session process.Development of National SWH Installation Guideline: Together with SABS, identifying critical standards for SWH installations and implementation with various stakeholders.SWH Audits: findings presented to installers for remedial actions if required. Review SWH Product SABS Test reports and Assign rebate values: Ensure that Manufacturer or Distributor complies with SABS standards (SANS 6211-1, SANS 1307, SANS 752 etc) for Thermal and Electrical Safety Performance. Rebate is thereafter calculated and allocated per custom SWH Residential/Domestic System.Non-Standard Installations Using Domestic Systems: New property developments required ESKOM SWH rebate funds to be ring-fenced for a defined period. This process required SABS approved SWH systems to be used for hot water generated via Solar to pre-feed a large-scale commercial facility or an industrial process.Industrial and Commercial Solar Water Heating: Integrated Demand Management (IDM) Standard Offer Program (SOP) incentive (Rand/kWh).
