After my own personal experience fighting Lyme disease, I launched LymeTV with a goal of reducing tick-borne diseases through prevention and research-based educational campaigns. In addition to leading the organization and our volunteer team of 24, I produce all filmed content, manage community partnership initiatives, and spearhead planning for sustainable growth. In just a few short years I’m proud to say we’ve achieved a lot! Some highlights include:►A BEST-IN-CLASS WEBSITE: Lyme disease research experts and other Lyme-focused foundations have applauded our website for the reader-friendly content, scientifically vetted information, and attractive design. I worked with our Director of Science and Research to cross-check all featured research and I currently serve as the primary content creator.►CORPORATE PARTNERSHIPS: I’ve made it a priority to include as many community leaders and businesses as possible in our mission to ensure illness prevention. I’m happy to report we’ve received many sponsorships and in-kind donations from major businesses, including Saco & Biddeford Savings, Panera Bread, Stonewall Kitchen, Renys, Hannaford, Walmart, Insect Shield, Ranger Ready, and many more who are dedicated to helping us advance our mission.►RESOURCE CREATION: I also helmed the creation of educational materials for both adults and children. After collaborating with screenwriters from a leading animation house, we produced an interactive cartoon of our evidence-informed school curriculum that is used in schools in multiple states. We also have posters and age-appropriate classroom activity books for students. As one who has dedicated her personal life to humanitarian efforts, I was thrilled to be invited to serve in the CFO position at Responsible Charity. This nonprofit focuses on empowering impoverished Indian families—women and children in particular—with sustainable education and family planning solutions. My role posed some unique challenges as I was managing teams based in both the USA and India while overseeing program development and operations. Honoring and understanding cultural differences was also key in working inside local communities and effectively leading a diverse staff.Some highlights during this time include:►PARTNERSHIPS: I initiated a partnership with LuminAid that allowed us to distribute 1K+ solar lights. This project assisted families living in communities without access to electricity. ►SUSTAINABILITY: It became immediately clear that alternative funding options and sustainable program development practices had to become a central focus. I researched and reviewed a variety of nonprofit models, compiled a report to our BoD, and made recommendations. The organization now has the information they need to move forward into a stronger future.►PROGRAM EXPANSION: By the end of my tenure, women’s health programs were improved with new educational materials and expanded to new communities. Women in both Kolkata and Pune, India now have access to information regarding women’s health issues and domestic violence.
