I want to design a more empathetic world.Before UX, I helped companies reduce their environmental footprint and keep our Earth clean. But, in early 2021, a skiing accident gave me time to reflect on my career path. I was helping the world, but I wanted to do more. That is when I found UX design.Problems today threaten everything from our way of life to our very existence, but UX design offers hope for a better future. It posits that the solutions to our problems can be found through teamwork and imagination. Designers puzzle together the various experiences of others to produce solutions that work. Solutions formed through collaboration. That’s exciting to me.Ways I help promote UX:Innovating ResearchScience’s ‘secret’ is to formulate questions that let humans draw informative and actionable conclusions. This is in part an art, but an art that I am familiar with. From 2017 to 2018 I worked in a university research group before joining MSA's new product development team where I proposed a method to increase manufacturing efficiency by 50%.Solving ProblemsI can identify different approaches to a problem and evaluate the best course of action - or at least evaluate the drawbacks and benefits to different approaches. In 2020, I worked as a field engineer to provide on-site solutions. This role grew my confidence, empowering me to act under pressure and my actions contributed towards a million dollar contract!Designing EffectivelyCollaboration and persistence. That’s how I design. Remaining faithful to making the best of a situation opens the door for magic.
