As a lead thermal and structural design engineer, I am involved in designing and optimizing the thermal management in each product in our 11 kW wireless charging system. I am the direct owner of the design of our vehicle side electronics box, or the interface between the vehicle side charging coil and the vehicle battery. Ownership of this design involves creating the liquid-cooled thermal management system for the circuit boards in the electronics box, as well as optimizing the size of the box per OEM customer requirements, and designing for sufficient structural performance.Other responsibilities involve designing heat sinks and optimizing flow considerations for our ground side wall box forced convection heat management. The wall box is the interface between the electronic grid and our system.

In this internship I worked in Delphi's High Power group working on components that appear in all of their high voltage components.These components, called Ferrules, are an integral part of shielding the connection systems that the group designs, which eliminates the electromagnetic "noise" created by high voltage applications.My work was to replace the material that was traditionally used, tinned copper, with rubber material which greatly decreased the piece cost of each part. In order to make the part viable, I had to optimize the geometry so that when the components were pull tested, they passed the strict OEM requirements that were placed on our group.In the end, I increased the retention force required for failure by over 200%, and the peak volume year savings per product line was projected to be more than $500,000.

In this month long research project, I used Abaqus CAD modeling and simulation to model genetic coronary anomalies in the aortic root in young athletes, and under what conditions they would affect health in when sudden high stress was placed on the body.The end result was a parametric model of the Aortic Root that could be easily varied for individual and unique anomalies. The research was expected to be used in a PhD research paper.
