About Aditya Sankar
I enjoy making things happen, by working with people of high energy, vision and commitment to bring down barriers in education and scientific training. Currently, as a Lead within the office of the Scientific Visitor Programme (SVP), I strive to achieve that as a science management professional in the life sciences, leading the strategic implementation of new programmes designed to host external scientists interested in short research stays at EMBL - such as the CPP visitor fellowships, EMBL-UNESCO Residency in Infection Biology and the EMBL Sabbatical fellowships. For a short period as a maternity cover, I assumed overall responsibility for the practical courses portfolio held at EMBL (Heidelberg, Grenoble, Hamburg, Barcelona and Rome) which has strong focus on providing state-of-the-art hands-on training to visiting scientists from around the world with a "train-the-trainer" approach to knowledge transfer. I will also be guiding and supporting a subset of our excellent scientific course organisers to prepare competitive applications seeking funding from EMBO for their courses. I am responsible overall for the professional development of three colleagues - the Scientific Visitor Programme Manager, a Scientific Training Manager (until August 2024), Scientific Training Officer (until August 2024). Prior to entering this role, I have accumulated over 10+ years of diverse and international experience as a molecular/developmental biologist (senior postdoc/assistant professor level) - successfully leading several international research projects into highly visible scientific papers as peer reviewed publications (published in Nature, Nature Cell Biology, Nature Genetics, Development, Genome Research, NAR, etc). I also spent 18 months as a Communications and Project Officer at EMBL helping write several successful grant applications. In my spare time, I enjoy going on walks, spending time with my family, cooking, and educating myself on science policy, democratised access to learning and its implementation strategies strategies to deliver impact.
Listed skills include Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, Cell Biology, Genetics, and 27 others.
