In addition to this, correlations between the powder performance and the mechanical properties of the printed parts will also be made. Also included theoretical study about polymer SEM. -
Master Thesis StudentRise Research Institutes Of Sweden Jan 2019 - Sep 2019Gothenburg, SwedenThe master thesis is about metal powder layering performance in additive manufacturing, in this case Selective Laser Melting. Apart from studying the powder spread during the unconventional layering process (a machine called 'TESTER' has been designed by RISE IVF to replicate the layering mechanism in SLM), the powder was also characterized by rheological testing, PSD (Particle Size Distribution), Helium Pycnometry prior to the printing and sample components were printed using SLM125 machine from SLM solutions. The mechanical properties such as density, hardness and surface roughness were measured and correlated to the results of powder performance from the 'TESTER'. -

The thesis experience was one of the best during the time of the Bachelors. We had among various topics to choose for working on and decided to pursue the working of a distributor valve, which is a key unit of an air braking system in the Indian Railways. A study was conducted on the current component used and various tests were performed gathering data to understand the complete working of this part. In addition to this, new materials for this particular component and also for the brakes were suggested by our team. This was a thesis that spanned over the course of the final semester of the degree and the outcome and experience were very convincing. -
