Indonesia Railway Diaspora is a community established in a LinkedIn chat group by Bedy Kharisma back in 2019. The purpose of the community is to connect Indonesians working or studying in the overseas railway industry across the value chain, from manufacturers to operators, engineering and business consultants, and researchers, and to share as much knowledge as possible to help build Indonesia's railway practices. We have so far gathered 40+ members in 7+ countries of residence, and the number is continuously growing. Luhut leads the operations of the organization & media activities as well as current podcast activities. He is also actively inviting Indonesians working/studying in railway sector overseas.

Indonesia Transport Change (IntraChange) organises volunteers and organisations in transport-related academic institutions, businesses, communities and NGOs to teach transport safety education for children aged 3-16 years old in Indonesia. IntraChange has a pool of volunteers of around 100 talents and has impacted a total of 1,000 people in Indonesia.Right now, IntraChange is partnering with multiple organisations and transport operators in promoting safe transit for everyone, especially for kids, in Greater Jakarta, Semarang, and potentially other cities in Indonesia.

Tusk Advisory is a strategic advisory firm focused on delivering infrastructure projects in the Asia Pacific region with a significant presence in Indonesia. As of May 2018, Tusk team migrated to be a part of Deloitte Consulting Southeast Asia.Highlights of previous projects:- [Economic Study] Co-Author of "The Impact of Indonesia’s Infrastructure Delivery" (2018), that assessed potential impact of infrastructure projects completion to economic growth, poverty reduction and inequality reduction in Indonesia.- [Port & Ferry Crossings] Supported Multi-stakeholders Collaboration between a Port & Ferry Crossing SOE with Coord. Ministry of Economic Affairs, Local Governments (city and provincial level), Railway SOE, local bus terminal authority, land agency and other stakeholders to de-bottleneck re-development plan of the most strategic ferry crossing port in Indonesia.- [Real Estate & Property] Developed strategy and financial analysis of a real estate & property company in preparing for IPO listing - work included financial health assessment and stakeholders engagement at ministerial level.

[Lubricant/ Automotive] As a bridging experience toward consulting world, Luhut was tasked so support a highly agile team working on growth strategy of an international lubricant company entering Indonesia market, with an extensive scenario of organic and inorganic approach.

As the internship's aim was to learn from the then-active Governor on governing public services, including its transport policies and implementation, Luhut was tasked to support SOE management and transport projects delivery (MRT, LRT and BRT projects).Highlights of key learnings are as follows:- [MRT, IT, Property] The then-active Governor's strategy to accelerate development was to put strong young professionals from diaspora network to lead small divisions, project teams to becoming directors of the most important projects including MRT project, property area development and IT system improvement for SOE supervision and strategy alignment. The diaspora professionals were expected to bring in global best practices to Jakarta.- [BRT system] There were massive replacement and change of approach of bus operator contracting in Transjakarta, which included upgrade of bus technical standards, staged removal of some non-compliant individually-run, medium buses (e.g., Metromini and Kopaja) and initiation of integration of feeder services. During this time as well, Transjakarta's API was shared to other systems, such as Google Maps and Go-Jek, allowing online tracking of Transjakarta buses. - [Open Government] One of the most notable actions of the then-active Governor was to be open for public through various channels, e.g., 1-hour door stop every morning to answer all questions from press and citizens; online-posted videos (up to 4 hours videos) and news of (most of) his meetings; open schedule for (most of) his meetings through Berita Jakarta portal; online portal for budgeting supervision by public; and various complain portals, such as QLUE (citizen app) and direct SMS to his numbers.

As the only representative from Engineering Management program, Luhut was responsible to support the delivery of two courses to Engineering Management classes, i.e., Information & Technology Analysis and Design (APTI) and Project Management (introducing Ms Project) courses.Ad-hoc supports including assisting in other courses, e.g., Database Design.

The program included training sessions from Indonesian business leaders and McKinsey's Partners in Southeast Asia. Special activity: Breakthrough Leadership Project, allowed Luhut to support MRT Jakarta in developing its safety policy.[MRT Jakarta] Key highlights from the project are as follows:- Assessed the safety standard, procedure and culture within MRT Jakarta's head office and project office sites. - Developed safety induction, procedures, and campaign/ promotion materials (including induction video) to be placed in MRT jakarta's offices and delivered to employees.- The project results were used until today as part of the company's safety promotion.

In this volunteering organisation, Luhut was responsible to manage daily, weekly, monthly and annual events including coordinating with programme managers, marketing content creators and other supporting roles.

During his tenure on this role, Luhut took the chance to use the dorm organisation’s capital to establish a small business to empower several moms (previously working as individual laundry workers) to group and collaborate for more profits through an instituted business, namely Tropical Laundry.Tropical Laundry increased the income for the moms of about 50% in less than 6 months that kept increasing more and more in the following years. It also allowed the process of grouping and bonding between each workers and with the organisation's members. The business is still running until today in profitable condition.

Luhut was assigned in Transportation Group to support engagements related to transportation sector.Highlights of previous engagements are as follows:- [Aviation] Engaged in corporate strategy and institutional design restructuring of public airplane pilot school in Indonesia, in partnership with Australian experts.- [Railway] Supported practice development in railway sector, particularly related to safety and risk management policy in rolling stock maintenance.- [Knowledge Management] Researched and assessed company's policies and readiness in implementing robust knowledge management that fosters collaboration, knowledge sharing, talent and expertise resiliency, customers retention, information safety and breach hazard and talent development. The result was shared as inputs for further development of the company.
