Alfie Designs was originally founded by my mother, Afi Nyarko, in 1990.Over time its grown from a small seamstress' shop to an established fashion label, churning out men's and women's fashion designs targeted at the middle class, and exhibiting in trade shows across Africa.I joined Alfie in 2008 as a volunteer at first, coming on board just to have something to do. As i worked i perceived there was so much potential for the business to excel and cross even more borders, hire more workers and expand its premises. I sought to streamline operations and assumed the position of CEO after a couple years, handling all business related activities while my mother remained founder and continued her passion of sewing and teaching others to sew properly.The business has grown exponentially; from a staff of 25 to 105, our online presence mushroomed over the course of the last few years, we have 3 shops in the capitol as well as others in East and West Africa and we stock a large number of private boutiques in the United States, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Uganda, Kenya, Sierra Leone and Mali. I won a USADF grant which we used to build our Fashion School; an initiative where we recruit and train young underprivileged girls in the tailorings arts, to give them skills they can use to make something of themselves. I also regularly attend the Sourcing at MAGIC exhibition and the NY-NOW market held in the United States, where i exhibit some of Alfie's new designs and do business with our international clients.

I have been made a council member at the Gerson Lehrman Group to offer consultation on the goings in in the fashion Industry in Ghana.

I became a YALI Citi Entrepreneur after becoming a 2016 YALI Fellow.As a Citi Entrepreneur i have special privileges to travel to Citi branches in West Africa and engage them in discourse about Alfie Designs.

During my time here I was assigned to and cared for elderly citizens, helped with their meals, showers, and making sure they received proper medical attention when they were in hospital.

I was a sales executive during my holidays in Scotland, manning the till, helping organise the store, interacting with customers to get their sizes and fits, taking stock, helped in the general design and interior decor of shop, and accounting for all sales made by me at the end of the day.

While was at the Vision Bookshop I was a sales executive, helping take stock of books and other items on sale, interacting with customers as they came in, volunteering at Special Conventions when we would attend as vendors, and ensuring the bookshop was clean and up to standard.
