My culinary journey intertwines my heritage with my passion for food. I came to the United States from Togo, West Africa, at the age of fourteen. At that time, it was very challenging to find food similar to what I ate back home while adapting to my new life here in the States.I was introduced to the art of cooking traditional West African dishes by my grandmother, and because of this, my culinary skills flourished at a young age. Sourcing African ingredients in Missouri proved to be a formidable task. Undeterred, I embarked on a journey of exploration and experimentation, tirelessly researching and discovering local substitutes to recreate the flavors of my homeland.Today, I proudly share my West African culture and cuisine with the St. Louis community and beyond. Two years ago, I realized my dream by creating, FUFU n' Sauce, a dynamic culinary brand that offers authentic West African cuisine through a food truck, catering services, and a signature line of spices and teas.In 2024, I had the incredible honor of sharing my heritage, culture, and recipes on a national level as a contestant on PBS’s The Great American Recipe. I am beyond proud to have won Season 3 of this celebrated show, where I introduced the world to the vibrant and bold flavors of West Africa. Our signature dish and meal that won the finale episode is Oxtail Palm Nut Stew, a tantalizing fusion of oxtail, aromatic curry spice, palm nut puree, and fiery habanero peppers. This experience invigorated my commitment to sharing my culture through food and my desire to show the beauty of West African cuisine.That same year, I was deeply honored to receive the 2024 Trailblazer Award from The International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP). This prestigious recognition is given to individuals who are shaping the culinary world through their passion and impact in the food community. Being chosen for this award speaks to my dedication to use food as a bridge to change the narrative around culture and diverse food, celebrate inclusion, and foster welcoming environments where everyone is encouraged to explore and appreciate the richness of other cultures.What I've shared in this brief about section is only a snapshot of my journey.
