The Executive Committee assists the (Extended) Bureau in its management of AIJA. The Executive Committee is asked to take an active role in promoting the objectives of AIJA and the Strategic Plan, in particular with regard to human rights projects (together with the Human Rights Committee), the development of the legal profession (together with the SCILL Commission) and membership recruitment (together with the Membership Forum). The European Commission presented a proposal for the revision of the Brussels IIa Regulation (Council Regulation (EC) no. 2201/2003 of 27 November 2003 concerning jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments in matrimonial matters and matters of parental responsibility, and repealing Regulation (EC) no. 1347/2000). The proposed revision includes important changes in the area of ​​the enforcement and implementation, the hearing of children, cooperation between Member States and the jurisdiction in cases involving parental responsibility.From September 2016 negotiations took place on the revision of Brussels IIa. The Ministry of Justice will conduct these negotiations on behalf of the Netherlands. To determine the Dutch position input from the Dutch legal practice is essential. It is therefore that an expert group is assembled with representatives of organizations and professional groups working in daily practice with the Brussels IIa Regulation. I was involved in preparing the Dutch position on behalve of vFAS, and I am involved in revised proposals during the negotiations.
