CurrentTechComm is the intellectual property licensing team at the University of Minnesota and is responsible for IP protection, faculty startup development, licensing, and commercialization. We provide business expertise as an internal resource for faculty and staff while maintaining strong connections to industry partners, entrepreneur networks, and funding programs.During my time at TechComm, I’ve managed a portfolio of high-tech innovations ranging from artificial intelligence algorithms to educational assessments. I've been an individual contributor and I've led the licensing officer team. I contribute to office-wide goals through revenue generation, start-up formation, and negotiated license agreements centered around digital assets. I'm responsible for:+ Building financial models and valuing new inventions+ Identifying and communicating with commercial partners + Commercialization, patenting, and market assessments+ Marketing individual technologies and broad research portfolios+ Drafting, negotiation, and management of University licenses+ Faculty outreach, technology transfer education and faculty startup development+ University-appointed board observer for multiple start-up companiesI specialize in negotiating combination licenses that include patent, trademark, and copyright assets. In this role, I stay connected to a wide range of industries and applications. I also advise stakeholders in valuation, royalty rates, and milestones.
