The program leverages Steve Blank's LeanLaunchPad curriculum to provide real world, hands-on training on how to successfully incorporate innovations into successful products. The ultimate goal is to help program participants create a new venture or licensing opportunity. About 100 technical teams per year complete the rigorous, intensive program based on customer discovery and business model validation.

Through my role in tech transfer, I've been exposed to higher ed institutions and commercial businesses who want to start, improve, or modify their tech transfer operation. I field both academic and commercial inquiries. In this capacity I've had the privilege of helping launch businesses, operate new business lines, negotiate tech transfer licenses, evaluate patent portfolios, and formalize tech transfer offices from infancy. Kardia was a funded, development-stage start-up company spun out of the Mayo Clinic. The innovation was a web-based work-flow improvement solution for echocardiography, taking the arcane video capture and paper/pencil notes into the digital age using a fully-integrated web-based application and predictive note-taking algorithm. The company raised money and hired a team, but couldn't make the Mayo > commercial transition and never successfully launched the product.I developed the initial sales pipeline, produced multiple pilot programs, and lead the licensing/sales team from infancy.

When I started, the company had a prototype web-based communications service that I commercialized through license and service agreements with Departments of Transportation, traffic control providers, and highway construction contractors nationwide. The innovation of this service Included a web-based technology plus the communications and control hardware to deliver real-time alerts to drivers through work zones.
