Senior Research Fellow (Pro-Bono)Urban Design Forum Jan 2018 - PresentNew York, New York, UsI'm a Senior Research Fellow for the 'Streets Ahead' Cultural Working Group 2023.I work with qualified city council members, policy makers, planners, other architects, and designers on bringing active strategy on how to engage with a more equitable cultural space. NYC offices we work with include: NYC Street Activity Permit Office (SAPO), Department of City Planning (DCP), and Department of Transportation (DOT), etc. I have been a fellow at the Urban Design Forum, since being nominated in 2018. Streets Ahead Project - With a new administration taking the helm in a few short months, this is a key moment to get the attention of our new city officials (newly elected Mayor Eric Adams and his incoming appointed agency leads, City Council members, and others) and influence their thinking on what is possible for our streets. While we target our city government, we also want to contribute meaningfully to the public dialogue on the issue. How can we transform streets to build connected communities? As the city reopens, there is significant opportunity for designers, planners, policymakers, and community members to develop an inspiring strategy to permanently reclaim streets for all New Yorkers. Streets Ahead convene as working groups over a year to advance ideas and proposals to envision a more vibrant, equitable streetscape. Our workshops, events, and conversations took place from summer 2021 through spring 2022. With public programming throughout 2023.More information: https://urbandesignforum.org/programs/next-new-york/streets-ahead/ -

Chief Creative OfficerNew Territory 2016 - PresentNew Territory is a mission-driven real estate venture, focused on creating and developing projects that explore key values in the future of urban living, community development, and the sharing economy. Born from a foundation of over six-years of applied research from founder Wendy W Fok’s Harvard doctorate examining open-source architecture and alternative social living spaces, New Territory is a platform for developments and dialogues in the emerging nexus between real estate, urban-technology, future of urban living, and social/cultural capital.Fok's developmental research at the doctoral-level focused on the progressive state of computational systems that straddle two topics of design: ethical use of intellectual property within design, and computational systems as a critical research tool that experiments with and investigates variable scales. As such, their research aims to further understand the growing concerns within the design community; it focuses on both corporate and individual digital convergence, on intellectual property as a form of trepidation, and on the commoditization of labor and production within sustainable/computational design. Combined with policy and technology, this research was then utilized to inform large-scale urban projects, real estate transactions, civic engagement, and urban strategies for affordable housing. New Territory Development seeks partners and developmental funding in affordable housing and co-living project development in: Los Angeles, Miami (area), and New York -

Visiting Professor - Aa ShanghaiArchitectural Association Jul 2012 - Aug 2013London, GbAA Shanghai Visiting SchoolInvited by Director: Prof Tom VerebesEvolutionary Urbanism, University of Hong Kong Faculty of Architecture Shanghai Study CentreJuly 2012 / August 2013Evolutionary Urbanism will investigate new computational design approaches in architecture and urbanism within the context of Shanghai, one of the world’s most rapidly growing cities. This year’s topic concerns the challenges facing the megalopolis of Shanghai as it feeds the insatiable demand for land for urban growth, expansion and densification. We will experiment with technologies associated with evolutionary approaches to urbanism and architecture through a variety of time-based, dynamic models of complex growth and change. Design proposals will negotiate the paradoxical forces of urban development and environmental change. Link: http://www.aaschool.ac.uk/STUDY/VISITING/shanghai -
Visiting Professor - Aa HoustonArchitectural Association Aug 2012 - Aug 2012London, GbAA Houston Visiting SchoolInvited by Director: Victoria Goldstein INTERSCALESS 06 – 20 August 2012Over the two weeks of the InterScaless workshop students develop parametric design strategies that enable them to generate design scenarios across scales while focusing on a given conceptual framework. The challenge this year is to rebuild the relationship between the emblematic structure of the Houston Astrodome and the urban structure of the city. To do this we will speculate via computational systems on the possible interaction between housing and local ecologies.Students will work in teams to explore different scales and programmes for the generation of new urban relations. They will use parametric tools to renegotiate multiple scales in real time while incorporating complexity given by environmental conditions. Redefining the threshold between urban agents will give rise to a new syntax between architectural elements. Parametric techniques and tools will be introduced during the workshop. Students will also present and discuss selected readings relevant to the topic. The aim is to open up a critical debate about how this approach affects the work of the architect and redefines the language of the discipline.Link: http://houston.aaschool.ac.uk -
