Project Director on a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -funded domestic capacity building assistance project. Responsible for leading a team to work with health departments in 65 states and U.S. territories on organizational development, program sustainability and the development of science-based HIV prevention plans. Duties include: budget management, staff supervision, training, and creating online tools. Provides ongoing support to domestic health projects funded by the CDC, Pfizer Foundation and the Annie E. Casey Foundation. In partnership with the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa, provided technical assistance, training and capacity building support to faith-based groups engaged in HIV/AIDS education, HIV testing, home-based care and OVC support initiatives in seven Southern African countries: Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe. Organized HIV testing days at clergy conferences (“The Lead by Example Campaign ”) and trained faith leaders on key HIV prevention, care and stigma-related issues. Created and supported income generation projects for HIV-positive women; coordinated pastoral support for caregivers impacted by HIV/AIDS; and skills building training for peer educators on reducing HIV transmission. Facilitated linkages between faith-based HIV projects and NGOs, governmental agencies, provincial health clinics, ecumenical groups and potential donor organizations to promote program sustainability. Coordinated cultural immersion and study tours to South Africa and Swaziland for clergy and college students in partnership with the South African Council of Churches.

Responsible for the overall development of environmental justice and climate change programs for a 1.4 million member denomination. Involved in public policy advocacy with key Congressional leaders. Designed environmental education workshops for local churches and implemented a comprehensive program of technical assistance to grassroots environmental organizations. Provided leadership for a delegation of youth and faith leaders to the U.N. World Conference against Racism in Durban, South Africa to address environmental racism. Reviewed federal environmental legislation and made public policy recommendations to address environmental justice issues in the United States. Participated in environmental delegations to Louisiana's Cancer Alley, Chile, Ecuador, South Africa and Vieques, Puerto Rico. Served on the Environmental Protection Agency's National Environmental Justice Advisory Council (2001-2003)

Provided leadership on the federal Center for Substance Abuse Prevention's Impaired Driving Initiative aimed at stimulating national awareness on preventing underage drinking and involving states and local communities in decreasing substance abuse. Coordinated press conferences and special events involving Cabinet level officials. Responsible for message and materials development and media relations for a national drunk driving prevention campaign and managing youth social marketing campaigns in eight cities.

Managed a multi million dollar budget and an 80 person staff which coordinated the response to HIV in the nation’s capital during the first decade of the AIDS pandemic. Responsible for identifying medical care and support needs, insurance issues, legal problems, and housing and social service requirements for persons living with HIV/AIDS, and ensuring that HIV prevention interventions to reduce incidence were developed.. Supervised managers of units responsible for AIDS surveillance, HIV counseling and testing, HIV prevention, community mobilization and outreach, care and support services for PLWHAs, and HIV seroprevalence surveys. Assisted in the development of the first set of public policies related to AIDS.
