This shift better aligns me with the strategic work I've been doing at Build Carolina since 2022. We've doubled our team size since I joined at the Director level & I'm excited about the new programs on the horizon to support South Carolina's tech talent ecosystem!

I finally joined Build Carolina's leadership team in 2022. This transition let me take a more strategic role while keeping my hands in instruction, engineering, and content development across our three programs: SC Codes, Develop Carolina, and Carolina Code School.

As an extension of my work with SC Codes, I helped build tools & provide guidance on technical topics for Build Carolina.

Improving the way the world writes software! As a People Success Agent at Test Double, I support Senior+-level software consultants as they deliver high-quality solutions while part of client teams. I still have occasional opportunities to contribute to client projects, internal growth & development initiatives, and tech community outreach on behalf of TD in this part-time role as well - the perfect mix for me of supporting others, challenging myself, and contributing to a great team.

As a consultant with Test Double, I embeded on engineering teams at companies big & small to provide feature development, team oversight, and process management. I flexed all my favorite skillsets here, including software engineering, devops/infrastructure work, and writing training content for some of today's most-popular development frameworks. I started my journey as a member of our internal People Success team to help manage other consultants here, and spent a few months owning major client accounts as part of our Client Services team.

Develop Carolina helps South Carolina career switchers find their first tech job and provides a structured curriculum, guided apprenticeship, and specialized coaching to produce well-rounded software engineers. I'm a founding member of this program and oversee our tech platform, technical & career curriculum, and outcome tracking tools.This role ended when I joined Build Carolina, our supervising nonprofit, fulltime in August 2022.

SC Codes is a non-profit helping to fill the "tech gap" in South Carolina by providing free technical classes and direct mentorship. We started out as volunteer mentors & coordinators working with the Greenville County public library system, and have since evolved into an expansive nonprofit, funded through a partnership with the SC Department of Commerce, with active learners in every SC county and a vibrant online community. I started as a volunteer mentor in SC Code's pilot program in 2016. Since then, I've joined the leadership team, led courses, and helped thousands of students learn to code. I'm the program's longest-active member and work in all capacities: writing content, managing live and virtual courses, maintaining our software systems & partnerships, and strategizing for the program's continued growth.This role ended when I joined Build Carolina, our supervising nonprofit, fulltime in August 2022.

I <3 ed-tech! App Academy is a globally-recognized coding bootcamp helping aspiring engineers reach their professional goals. I began working with the team on a contract basis and was asked to come on full-time as a result of my work. As a senior member of the curriculum team, I wrote, updated, and starred in numerous courses used by students across the United States. I was also responsible for internal video production with tools like OBS, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, and more. During my time at a/A, we planned & launched an entirely new course for students. Additionally, I shared duties with the Engineering team and deployed multiple bugfixes to the school's internal LMS software.

Served part-time as both a Diener (autopsy tech) and sole IT Administrator for a small medical practice focusing on forensic pathology. I worked closely with medical professionals, law enforcement, and medicolegal death investigators to find justice & closure for grieving families.Duties as a Diener include: - autopsy evisceration and evidence collection;- collaborating with law enforcement, local government and medical facilities to manage case data;- toxicology backlog tracking and management;Duties as IT Administrator include: - overseeing a growing tech infrastructure, including multimedia devices, cell phones, PCs, laptops, landline phones, servers, custom software and web presence;- software and hardware procurement;- custom software development, release and maintenance;- license and contract management;- software and hardware updates and regular maintenance;- data backups, records requests and long-term storage;Personal achievements:- Led the company's transition from analog to digital services (phone/fax/local storage -> cloud solutions)- Oversaw multiple leadership transitions & subsequent change management- Personally performed thousands of autopsies, helping families & the legal system get answers.

Serving the world's most distinguished travelers! Fortis provides secure private travel services for business & luxury clientele. As a member of the engineering team, I supported a Rails monolith, multiple native mobile applications (Android & iOS), and our related infrastructure. I led the introduction of React to the team, rewriting one client-facing application and creating another entirely new product while training the team in a new-to-them framework. I also got to continue building my DevOps skillset by writing custom tooling to manage our deployments, introducing internal chatbots for application monitoring/maintenance, and reducing resource utilization to keep costs low. The tools we built allowed the company to scale dramatically during my tenure, and have reliably supported them during an industry-wide retraction during the global pandemic.

Crafting and improving a widely-used property management LMS. Grace Hill is a Ruby on Rails shop with a JavaScript frontend (including Vue.js) and a ton of custom shellscripting & Docker container management tooling. While contributing to the Rails monolith & myriad microservices, I also led the company's engineering team in rebuilding our deployment & hosting infrastructure, cutting AWS costs by ~25% and transitioning us from a 1+ hr scheduled weekly deployment to a 15 minute push-button deploy with Slackbot management. I'm proud to say that 2 years after my departure on good terms, I'm still in touch with team members and my solutions are still being used!

Planning, implementing, and collaborating on software projects with a small team of dedicated developers & designers. I work primarily with Ruby on Rails & Javascript to support our company's products, including our own custom internal applications, external products, and custom integrations with third-party providers.As part of this role, I coordinate with all of our various corporate teams to ensure that processes flow smoothly and everyone has what they need (or, at least, has a spec for it!). Our team also manages our custom educational content and user support for both students and employees. A big perk of this job? Lots of opportunities for teaching & student interaction. Coding's fun, but having a lasting impact on someone is more fun!
