I was hired in a new position to develop a loss prevention strategy for the company that focused on reducing robberies in the business to keep the employees safe from harm. I had to implement the new strategic framework and land the changes in the business across 5 countries for all loss prevention, security services and systems, Investigation, enterprise risk management and response.Within the first year of implementation of the strategy, my team made 330 arrests, resulting in 109 fewer robberies than the previous year and a 16% reduction in loss to the organisation.Implementing the new strategic vision required extensive change management in an organisation that is internationally renowned for its exceptionally great culture. It required extensive engagement with internal stakeholders and developing a plan that is complex in delivery yet simple in definition.The strategy aimed and succeeded to deliver on five aspects:1. Implementation of Intelligence Driven Security Risk Management processes.2. Conviction-driven Investigation 3. Standardisation of security systems, procedures and processes4. Centralised monitoring and management of security systems and services 5. I was hired in a new position to oversee the implementation of a number of large projects to transform the Group's security function. With over 15 000 security officers and a budget exceeding R1 billion in 15 countries, it's the largest private security operation on the continent.Apart from the operational planning and group management of security services and systems I had to provide a new strategic vision for the function with the aim of reducing loss and incidents.The strategy was aimed at a risk-based approach to incident management with the introduction of standardised risk assessment criteria and the implementation of a data collection and incident management system. To achieve the goals of the new function a number of in-house functions were established: Investigations, Crime and Data Analytics, Technical Project Management and a Centralised Security Operations Centre.The functions of the role included:Management of Security Services and Systems/Technical, Global Security Operations Centre, Investigations & Analysis, Incident Management/Response, Corporate Facilities, Distribution and Logistics, VIP and Event Security, Providing extensive mentorship, development for new teamsSearch & selection, recruiting & developing the talent pool roadmap, Contract management, risk assessment, incident management, the roll-out of procedures/processes relating to security operations, disaster events, service delivery disruptions, protest action, management of all security-related incidents, Fleet management & monitoring response services, Reviewed and redesigned in-store security systems and procedures, Ensuring robust investigation of 500+ security incidents per year, Day to day management of all security with extensive report generation and analysis.
