Manages shipboard nuclear reactor plant network operating systems (e.g., Windows Server and clients) and infrastructure (i.e., cabling, throughput, connectivity, I/O devices, and topologies). Possesses thorough knowledge of current technology and trends. Implements a variety of protocols, services, and standards such as TCP/IP and Internet (http, ftp, telnet, smtp, snmp). Manages networks, taking into account hardware and software compatibility, environmental constraints, growth potential, lifecycle management, cost/performance analysis, and user feedback. Performs hardware and software installation. Performs management and maintenance functions including inventory control of computer assets, software configuration and management, user training, and help desk management. Provides oversight and direction to PPLAN Administrators.

PPLAN Administrators are responsible for all aspects of network operation, including hardware and software maintenance and control in addition to in-rate responsibilities pertaining to reactor plant operation.Other responsibilities include maintaining a CCTV system, a separate non-nuclear plant monitoring network, and a ship-wide wireless voice communication network.

Nuclear Electrician's Mates operate and control generators, switchboards, control equipment, and electrical equipment associated with reactor plants; operate and perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on power and lighting circuits, electrical fixtures, motors, generators, voltage and frequency regulators, controllers, distribution switchboards, and other electrical equipment; test for short circuits, grounds or other casualties; and repair and/or rebuild electrical equipment, including solid state circuitry elements.
