NOVA Chemicals Europe Ltd 1999-2003Engineering and Reliability Leader• Leadership of the site World Class Reliability effort to attain 1st quartile benchmark standards. • Responsible for a maintenance budget of £2million and driving cost reductions of 5% year on year.• Responsible for a site CAPEX of approx £1million per year achieved through a mixture of in house project engineering and third party EPC companies.• Implementation of the SAP maintenance management and Project Systems modules as part of the corporate adoption of SAP as the main business system.• Core member of the site leadership team that integrated the process plants acquired by NOVA in 1999 from Huntsman Chemicals and Shell Chemicals in 2000 and negotiated a new site agreement with trades unions.

Huntsman Chemical Co Ltd 1992-1999Maintenance Manager• Leadership of the multi discipline site maintenance team through a period of sustained expansion and investment including £20million in 1994 and £15million in 1997. I was responsible for a £1.5 million maintenance budget and the line manager for 15 maintenance technicians.• Implementation the site’s first computerised maintenance management system (Mainsaver )to place more emphasis on planned preventative maintenance and move away from the fire-fighting defect culture that had prevailed.

Shell Chemicals UK Ltd 1984-1986Mechanical Engineer• Technical support engineer to the operational organisations at the Stanlow Refinery and Carrington petrochemical complex.• Introduction of the concept of PC based computerised maintenance management systems to the Carrington site when manpower reductions led to the loss of a centralised mainframe system. This led to continuity of planned maintenance activities in spite of the loss of centralised services.Shell Chemicals UK Ltd 1986-1989Maintenance and Day Operations Manager• Leadership of the move from a traditional craft based organisation to multi-skilled operator performed maintenance on the Ethylene Oxide Derivatives plant. • Management of day operational activities such as warehousing, blending and loading of hazardous chemicals and I was successful in attaining ISO9000 accreditation for these activities.Crystal Polymers Ltd 1989-1992Lead Mechanical Project engineer• Conducted negotiations with the Joint Venture partner throughout the duration of the project which was valued at £55 million.• Resident engineer at Bechtel, London, Zimmer AG Frankfurt and Sinco SpA Italy during the design phase of the project with design approval responsibility for the mechanical discipline.• Site Mechanical Engineer at Flixborough, Humberside during the green field site construction phase of the project with construction approval responsibility.
