Responsible for the design, delivery, and business direction for Electrical Estimating and Project Management solutions within North America for the MEP Division of Trimble Inc. My duties have varied between guiding development, dealing with, and negotiating between multiple stakeholders in multiple countries (internal and external), guiding social media presence, representation with key clients, reporting on sales and trends for upper management, and making sure that the fulfillment process goes smoothly. This covered both traditional software using physical media for delivery and cloud based software delivered on a SaaS model. Introduced and moved the development cycle away from a traditional waterfall model and onto an Agile scheme (initially Kanban, but eventually Sprint), and convincing the various stakeholders to also participate. Moved out hosted environments onto a combination of AWS and Microsoft Azure to allow for creation of published architecture using micro services via Docker increasing the velocity of development. I also looked for any other solutions under development by differing parts of the organization that could be repurposed for my particular needs. My technical duties included working in Optimal Trace, Aha!, Jira, Converge, SalesForce, Domo, and Google Docs to document, break down, and prioritize needs for development. I also maintained transparent reporting to quickly flag stumbling blocks. In order to drive community engagement I organized and hosted a series of webinars for our clients to get a better understanding of our products, and use that as a vehicle for understanding their needs as well.

Responsible for delivery, design and development for a variety of projects used by both different sections of the company, and outside clients. My rolls have varied between consulting duties, technical lead for a variety of projects, and sole responsibility for delivery, design and development for individual projects. Built several systems including the CRM system used for the Diabetes division for their call center and to record medically adverse events, and the internal library reference tool for use internally to view both scientific and business literature. My technical duties varied between administration of both the web and database servers (IIS, Apache, Oracle, and SQL Server); Programming in ASP.NET (C#), Java (J2EE, Struts etc.), PL/SQL, JetSQL, and Perl; Developing design documents for multi-programmer teams (UML etc.); Creating widgets to allow communications between a variety of different systems using C++, Java, XML/XML-RPC, and a little bit of ABAP; and working with the clients to better understand their needs and deliver a system that helps them solve their business problems.

Responsible for the design and development of many large-scale applications and e-commerce web sites. Primarily used Cold Fusion 4.5, but used Perl, Java, JavaScript, and MSSQL 7.0 native scripting to a lesser extent. XML was used via the WDDX protocol for data exchange between separate systems. Responsible for the upkeep of a Windows NT / Solaris Network (with Win 98 / NT and Mac OS being used as the front end), mail systems, MS-SQL 7.0 database, the Veritas backup server, and the continuing functioning of the Web-based systems. IIS was used for the Webserver, Post.Office was the mail software. Over the course of the job introduced automation through out to increase network efficiency and reduce administrator workload. Additionally, I was responsible for helping clients with designing new projects which they needed to better automate their businesses and helping them with any technical problems while managing a small team of programmers.

Worked extensively on design and development of intranet applications (ie Printer Management), did work in Perl, C++, and ColdFusion. Also used XML and JavaScript to a lesser extent. XML was used for data exchange in-between systems. Responsible for the continued functioning of a test server (Win NT, IIS, MSSQL 7.0).

Used Allaire’s Cold Fusion 3.1(Enterprise Edition), HTML 3.2, and JavaScript 1.1 in a Windows 95 / Novell NetWare based environment. Automated and maintained an online help system for use by Ministry Employees (Ask Alice). Also created an online automated account request system for users to request computer resources from the Ministry intranet. Worked with both Access and Oracle 7 for database sources. Online systems included querying SMTP compliant mail servers to send and download mail.

Ottawa, Canada Area

Used Perl to create a series of scripts for mass FTPing, automatic updating of files the, and alerting the administrator of potential dead links. This was all done on a Solaris system. Helped with basic system maintenance, including installation and customization of network software. Set up, customized and maintained an Apache web server. Also responsible far answering technical questions for management. Helped create, plan and design the eTax filing system.

Laurencetown, Nova Scotia

Created an application in C++ to create accounts and private directories for users of the Novel system on the Windows NT system. Created an HTML 3.2 / QuickTime based presentation to be distributed by the school on CD for public relations purposes. Helped do system administration from resource allocation to actual wiring the network. Upgraded desktop machines hardware and software for use in the upcoming year. UNIX systems were AIX and Solaris. Set up an OS/2 based BBS for posting gathered GPS data.

Coldbrook, Nova Scotia

Helped the Teachers, students, and community members with computer problems and questions. Helped set up an initial internal Ethernet for use on the schools Macintosh computers. Taught basic computer skills, programming, and Web Design to children and adults. Set up a speech synthesis module to help physically handicapped children communicate with others. Fixed both hardware and software problems as they arose. Created a database and user interface in ClarisWorks to help teachers schedule and find events.
