Despite -perhaps because of - professionally training as an accountant I have always been been interested in how communities and individuals interact within their localities. I believe that all communities - and the individuals who constitute them - should be given the opportunity to participate in the creation of a better future for themselves. I have found that I enjoy helping create these opportunities and facilitating, through joint working between my own organisation and others, the creation of these opportunities. Things I have found invaluable in achieving this aim is persistence, optimism and a willingness to persue opportunities with an open mind about where they can lead to. It also helps not being overly focused on what - at least initially - will be the benefit to myself as an individual or my organisation, sometimes the right person to take an idea or initiative forward and make it a sucess isn't at the table when the discussion starts or the opportunity arrises - getting them to the table is often the key to ultimate sucess.
