After what seems like several years but in fact was only 3 (!), with a lot of hard work and goodwill from the great Groundwork team and our partners the four Groundwork Trusts that have been delivering services in Yorkshire for almost 30 years have formally joined together. Still proud to be part of the wonderful Federation of Groundwork Trusts and actively building ever closer links with our Groundwork Colleagues in the North. Still delivering a wide range of fantastic environmental and social regeneration projects throughout the region - for many of the communities we work with the need has never been greater.

Really pleased to be invited to join the wonderful Volition Board - it’s a privilege to have such an insight into the fantastic work of the organisation and its partners as it supports organisations and individuals working for people helping those with mental health needs in Leeds.

Having been a founder member of the Shadow Board we've developed a clear strategy to ensure that the natural environment is seen as, and understood to be, a key contributor to the local economy and vital for the social and economic success of the region. We are advocates for the importance of the natural environments importance to health, employment and economic development whilst promoting the importance of biodiversity and ensuring access to all.

As Executive Director I lead our senior management team in the development and delivery of our commercial and charitable services that help improve people's prospects, promote greener living and working and create better places.I am also an enthusiastic participant in the work national Federation of Groundwork Trusts - where I sit on the national Performance Committee, represent my fellow Yorkshire Trusts on the Federation Executive Team and have been a strong adocate of national peer reviewing, I am also active in a a number of Leeds based and other local charities.

I joined the Board of VAL following the sucessful merger of Leeds Voice - where I was Chair - with VAL. I work closely with my fellow Board members to support the work of VAL and through this the development of a thriving third sector in Leeds. Through my roles with groundowek and VAL I am involved in a number of third sector representational roles including being part of the Leadership Group for Third Sector Leeds - the City's primary sector liaison forum and Transform Leeds (where I chair the Partnership Board).

As a non-executive Board Member I work closely with my fellow Board Directors to support the chief executive and his team in the development of a sustainable business that meets its charitable objectives.

Arise Yorkshire is an innovative partnership based organisation that brings together five prominent Bradford Third Sector organisations to seek out, develop and deliver socially valuable services. Our current "live" projects include the acquisition, refurbishment and letting of empty properties in Bradford, especially in areas of need and of a type in short supply (typically 2 bedroomed). We are also looking at different ventures and opportunities including the delivery of locally focused services and mnagement of community assets.

As Managing Director of the wholly owned trading subsidiary of Groundwork Leeds I have led the develpment of a more commercial approach to service development and delivery within the Trust. Working closely with service managers we have both developed and delivered commercially successful varients of our Leeds focused charitable services and expanded the delivery area for our services beyond our defined charitable area.

Leeds, Wakefield, Selby, Scarborough And Hull

I have been working with the Boards and Senior staff from Groundwork Leeds, Wakefield and Notth Yorkshire to create a new Groundwork entity that is responsive to the current challenging commercial environment whilst we continue to meet the many needs and challenges facing the local communities at the heart of our charitable aims. This work has involved a degree of restructuring and business re-modelling at the same time as we retain the quality of local service delivery.

Following promotion I developed my non-financial business and development skills and gained experience in the many challanges of practical service delivery.

Having trained and worked in a variety of local government financial teams I joined Groundwork to both broaden my experience of working to a into a more commercially sensitive environment and put to more practical use the financial skills I had acquired and developed.

I held a variety of roles including leading a Corporate Projects Team, Central Finance Team and a seconded finance function working within the Department of Social Services. Through these roles I gained experience of managing and delivering finncial functions in a large and complex public sector organisation where the gaols and objectives of service teams were often not fuly aligned to corporate goals.

I joined the Borough as a geaduate trainee and moved into a substantive post as I worked through my professional qualifications. The Borough was an excelent introduction to the world of professional service delivery in a municiple/corporate environment at a time of rapid and substantive change for both local authorities and the economy.
