Systems Architect

Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

Inspired and guided a multidisciplinary team in developing a unique approach to urological data acquisition from requirements gathering through design, refinement, product release and support. Created an entirely new embedded architecture and module design to meet the changing needs of urology:- Uroflow-meter (load-cell based flow meter)- Infusion pump / hook - (peristaltic pump, load-cell based bladder infusion pump)- Multi-channel pressure / EMG measurement module- Catheter puller for urethral pressure profilometryInvented a software framework for RFID traceability, infection control and anti-counterfeiting for single use consumables. Designs led to 3 approved US patents (Mechanical, Software and Electrical fields).Redesigned the endoscopy video data pipeline (from packet receipt to display) reducing latency, jitter and supporting a 4x increase in frame rate as well as video storage.Designed and implemented a signal processing algorithm for detecting non-physiological artifacts for which a provisional software patent is currently under review.

Technical Lead Project Manager

Project Manager and Architect for a number of Neurodiagnostic products. Worked closely with luminary sites and customers to develop requirements and refine designs. Led multi-disciplinary teams through all phases of product development and regulatory approval. Subject matter expert for IOM (IntraOperative monitoring), EEG (Electroencephalography) and EMG (Electromyography) fields.Led the team in the design, development, refinement and regulatory approval of the Protektor32 Intraoperative Monitoring (IOM) system within budget and according to schedule. This was a flagship product and one of the largest product development projects ever undertaken by Natus Medical. This involved: software, electrical and mechanical and included signal analysis, display, storage and many to many remote monitoring and review over a custom protocol optimized for resilience over low reliability networks.Technical lead and project manager for a next generation 512 channel intracranial electroencephalography (EEG) digital amplifier. Designed a low-latency, packet alignment algorithm which allowed independent physiological data streams to be combined efficiently.

Worked closely with marketing and customers to develop requirements and fine-tune product designs.Developed class-leading intracranial EEG digital amplifier (EMU128FS) - Optimized data handling to meet challenges of higher data rates and channel counts. NeuroMaxCE: The legacy codebase was moved from an in-house developed OS on legacy hardware to being emulated on a modern OS. Developed the graphics abstraction layer, the memory management mechanism and the file management.Partnered with 3rd party visualization software team to integrate diagnostic visualization software into NeuroWorks EEG isolating 3rd party elements from interfering with data acquisition.

Jan 2005 - Dec 2007

Senior Software Engineer

Jointly led the software development for a completely new EMG (Electromyography) product - XCalibur. Using a modified Agile methodology, refined the design through a series of short release iterations. Developed critical features on the EMG, EEG (Electroencephalography) and IOM (IntraOperative Monitoring) modalities.Ground up development of the XCalibur EMG Software with a 2 person team. (Development of data persistence, data path, common hardware abstraction layer, signal analysis, optimized graphics framework). Created the common bidirectional reporting engine used in numerous diagnostic products. This framework was based around dynamically created XSLT applied to XML representations of data which produced an object based interpreted formatting structure.
